agree overall and appreciate Newcastle council area is only 300k, but Im not having that Wallsend isn’t Newcastle just because they invented the county of North Tyneside in 1974.

The areas of Northumberland, North Tyneside, Gateshead, a fair chunk of South Tyneside and significant parts of County Durham are black and white.  This puts the regional catchment area well over a million.

Dude, it wasn’t the opening salvo of a Ready To Go-esque catchment area discussion

No-one gives a shite about that sort of yokel nonsense apart from the hillbillies down the road, don’t lower yourself to indulging in one of their special interest topics

All I was saying was that we have a small city as our main urban conurbation and not much in the way of out of region match going support

So if we have hundreds of thousands of members, given the demographics of our fan base, many of those memberships won’t be real people

Unlimited, unvetted memberships really is at the heart of our touting problems like.

Combine that with the tech that’s available and you can see why a normal punter has very little chance of a ticket unless they get lucky in the ballot.

Phone sales only and paper tickets. It’s the future trust me 🙂

Aye I was in amongst that. We got in the queue around 7pm and it had already gone from the old gates at the Milburn Stand, around the Gallowgate and it was just snaking up the East Stand. Remember the ticket office staff being called in around 4/5am and the charge up the hill when they opened those gates. People being trodden on as they lost their footing in the stampede. Then a massive chant of "The Fulwell End is always full!"

Think I got back in the house about 7 or 8am and my mam and dad let me have the moring off school so I could get some sleep.

I loved that season!

Aye great memories remember getting stopped by the plod in car on way home in early hours, flashed tickets and was on my way again in seconds.

I took a sleeping bag thinking it would be an orderly queue overnight. Spent about 3 hours standing up in a mass mob unable to move outside the ticket office after the gates were opened. No idea where my sleeping bag went

It was - I remember legging it through the gates when they opened at daft o’clock in the morning.

Remember we had all our booze taken off us by police getting on the train on the way to Blackburn.

They won’t publish the data.

They’re starting to come under a lot of pressure now though with the other major teams doing it.

Not saying that will definitely make them change their mind, but it’s becoming harder to justify the ‘commercially sensitive’ angle.

I checked out the Liverpool data, it’s pretty vague and doesn’t go into as much detail as I imagine the NUST are hoping for.

Yeah, I think they probably realise they won’t get what they’re asking for, or particularly close to it, but if they can get something, it’s better than the nothing currently available.

BBC running with another investigative article about how endemic Premier League ticket abuse is. Think it's the 3rd article in a week.

Brighton actually invited the BBC in to see how they're trying to tackle ticketing abuse. Employing specialist people, utilising AI tech etc.

I just can't see them advertising a membership for £40 with "might get you to 2 matches" as the USP.

You're right about the pressure though.

That's why the make more noise about the exclusive access to merch, competitions etc. rather than the actual match day tickets.

Because I'm a nerd locked in a guerrilla war with NUFC ticketing I went back and looked at all of my ballot entries and results since we switched to the current system at the start of last season.

I apply for 1 x standard ticket.

IT'S TRAGIC. If I wasn't clued up on how to get general sale and ST resale tickets then I wouldn't have attended a game in 13 months.

I don’t have evidence to back this up, but anecdotally, it seems those applying for an adult and child, have better success rates than those simply applying for a single adult.

*cue someone saying they’ve applied for an adult and child every game for the last two seasons and never won…

I am thinking the same thing as last season I applied for every ballot and got two Carabao Cup games for myself. I may start trying for an adult and child from now on to test the theory seeing as I pay for the child membership anyways

I apply for an adult and child for every match and success rate is appalling. Shite last season and 0/5 so for this season.

I will make an entrance...

Last year, I won the opening day in Level 7 with my boy. Dont think I had another ballot win all season (from memory) but managed to get tickets in the general sale thankfully.

So far I've had Wolves and Bradford.

Season before I had a lot of success including PSG.

What %  is shite though?

I’m not saying I think adult and child get like 50% or anything, still probably hovering around the 20% mark, but seems to be less instances of <10%.

Also, there’s still an element of randomness within it all. There will be some adult and child applicants down at really low success and some single adults at higher than average success. Whatever theories we all have, there’s clearly no silver bullet to applying successfully

One of the tout accounts used the name Tony Montana - the lead character in '80s gangster film Scarface - to try and bulk purchase tickets.
