Coffee_Johnny
28 August 1982, Newcastle 1-0 QPR. Can’t remember anything about the match itself. Embarrassingly, can’t even vividly picture the goal. Can still re-experience the wait to get in, smell the cider some bugger tried to spit over the police horse pushing through the packed ranks who’d been waiting outside the Gallowgate end for hours in blazing sunshine. Remember the disbelief and excitement of seeing the two times European footballer of the year/English legend turn out in black and white. Kevin Keegan—who I had met at a school football tournament (and was so attentive and welcoming)— is going to be playing for us!?! Felt unbelievable. I definitely wouldn’t have believed the impact he would have, and joy he would bring, to the club. Even though the details are lost in the fug of time, has to be one of the greatest games I have attended.

Yeah the corner flags were puddles and the boxes were just mud and puddles. Proper old school footy no way would the premadonnas of today play on a pitch like that

Skeletor
Sunderland 0-1 in 2003. Not the greatest match but one of my personal favourites due to the circs (Us going into the CL again, them getting relegated with record low points). The fans with the "Let's all laugh at Sunderland" cards. The reactions from the likes of Bellamy etc at full time. The disallowed goal and their reaction. Low key one of my favourite NUFC games. I spent that match in a corporate box with a few Toon fans and Chelsea ‘fans’ and a former well known ref whose name now escapes me, they tried to claim KK was a bottler and a cheque book manager and I put them well in their place and I found out they didn’t go to many Chelsea games other than free corporate stuff through their work and weren’t long time fans, a sweet victory that day. Shame it was under Pardew mind… Probably Jeff Winter that cunt is often viewed at matches.

Just watched that back this year, was a really good fast game, we were miles better in fairness. Howey was immense, prime flash in the pan Chris Sutton got about four touches. It'd be easier to list the games under Keegan that weren't really good. What were ordinary games then would blow people away now. Carlito
6-2 at home vs Everton. Also beating the likes of Olympiacos and Mallorca 7-1 on aggregate in the UEFA Cup really felt like we were onto something at the time.
