cranna
Dominic Szoboszlai is 1.86m tall. Newcastle will have the highest team in the world if they keep this up. Just imagine with Kim (1.90m) and Kephrem Thruam (1.92m).

AyeDubbleYoo
Dahoud is another FIFA star, nearly all of my team are in the Prem now. Sadly it’s my brother who scouts them for us, I just give the Ashworth nod Kudus hasn’t arrived yet mind. Edited May 29, 2023 by AyeDubbleYoo

From what I’m aware having listened to Leeds and So’ton fans who’ve been RB managed to a certain degree, and this could be wrong, they’re relatively rigid in the way they’ve been taught play. Funnel the ball central, 4-2-2-2 etc. Given, as ponso has posted, the low hit rate for high cost makes me worry further beyond further worries about Bundesliga football players in general who although technically gifted seem to struggle with football that isn’t wide open. Memphis
Szoboszlai just feels like one of our signings. Physically, tactically, age, seems to check every box. It seems inevitable. From what I've seen, I'd prefer him to Maddison although I will absolutely support whatever the club's decision ends up being.
Sufi
I prefer the hungarian but I'm not sure we are in a position to gamble away 70m of our transfer funds on a player from RB, no matter how good he does look. I'll take Tierney, Maddison and a proven CB like Pavard. Then we can look at free transfers and loans to fill out the squad and provide cover at CB and CM, maybe even a young winger for competition, a proven RB on loan to cover tripps and we can send Ashby on loan with option to recall. 3rd choice CF and a backup GK if dubravka leaves. Maybe 4-5 transfers for money. 1-2 free transfers and a further 1-2 loans of experienced players, preferable at 3rd CF and backup RB, id even be fine going the loan route for a backup GK. That leaves LB, CB, 2 CMs and a winger. Very do-able with 150m and 1-2 players in on a free. I find it terrifying that we could have our biggest season in club history approaching and spend 70m on one 22 year old player from RBL hahaha. I'd welcome him and be hype for it but its fucking scary to think what the consequences would be... I really want us to swing on young talented players from random leagues but with 150m to spend I think we need to be extremely careful on spending on players who will need time to adjust to a new league, players who are super young or play in a team with a unique system etc. Maybe 1 or 2 of those guys is fine. For 10-15m and another on a free. But 70m on Szo would be irresponsible use of our funds imo. Edited May 29, 2023 by Sufi
AyeDubbleYoo
I wouldn’t worry about him coming from RB if he fits the profile we want. Of course it’s a challenge to adapt but that’s the case for anyone from abroad.

TheBrownBottle
Szoboszlai would be an incredible signing - how likely is it though? It feels like we’re a year or two away from players like him, but perhaps the CL qualification opens up paths to this sort of player?
Sufi
Ward-Prowse anyone? Proven, experienced, in his prime. Could push Bruno up a bit. Another set piece specialist. I'd be fine with 30m on him.
Sufi
I know its underwhelming for some of us who have spent months watching uber talented foreign players on youtube but how would you guys feel about Ward-Prowse, Tierney, Maddison and a good proven PL CB in his prime like Tarkovski? If we spend 130-140m on those 4 and fill out the rest with loans and free transfers. Maybe a youngster for the future like Guler. Personally I would be very very happy with that. Thoughts? Not Ward Prowse Tierney or Tarkowski. we need a profile of player who can be available to play (rules out Tierney) or who can improve the first 11 which rules out the other two. Sufi
Fair about Tierney with his health. Ok just looking now at the free transfers here. I kind of agree that Ward-Prowse is meh but hes proven and we know what we are getting. I think CM is the position thats probably most important that we get right. Tons of LBs who can do a job. https://www.transfermarkt.us/statistik/endendevertraege Guirreiro at LB? plays a few positions too. Asensio? Laimer? Skriniar? Dembele? Thuram? Now that I look I dont know if I've ever seen so many good free transfers available. Many of them in their prime as well.

Just playing devils advocate here. We cant afford a 70m from RBL who potentially flops or takes a year to get adjusted to EH and to England etc. So I guess I'm thinking of who we can sign that we know what we are getting. Less of a gamble. Lower ceiling but a higher floor. I think its a great year to scavenge off other teams in the prem. Those who are relegated, fallen on tough times etc. Lord knows it happened to us for decades. Another random but related question, what about the recent Chelsea model with long contracts and future funds involved. Risky? Tying up all that FFP money going forward. Can't take a gamble on that 22 year old mega talented, national team captain with 4 years of Champions League experience. Better play it safe and get some of that older trustworthy bottom half Premier League experience to guide us to another top 4 finish and Champions League campaign. The long term Chelsea deals are not wrong ... If you buy the right players at the right price. What if the new Manager wants to change them? One, is there any money left to spend? Two, how much would they lose if they sold them at a discount (do they have to pay all the wages as well?) Might work if it was a long term manager in place but not at a club with a new manager every other year.

I'd feel different if it was a player from a different league, team and not for 70m. He looks fantastic but so did Naby Keita and a few others at RBL.
