Players commonly have a Loyalty bonus paid out across the life of their contract in instalments.

If a player is sold they will get the remainder of the bonus as a lump sum on the way out.  If the player requests a transfer and leaves that is voided and they don't get anything extra.

If he’s refusing to play or train with us, then I’m sure legally we are entitled to refuse to pay him his wages. We can keep the cunt for 3 years if needs be.

I’ve made my position clear. He gets told to stay it’s happened may times over the years (modric, Gerrard, Suarez, Rooney) to name a few then we have a year to scout and plan his replacement. We should not be bowing down to anyone and giving ourselves only 4 weeks to replace him. Wanna be a big club? Fuckin act like a big club

well said, especially the last sentence

If he scores 15-20 goals a season for the next couple of years and it fires us into Europe again, and we cash in for £25m-£30m, isn’t that a risk worth taking, PSR or no PSR.

Also, who knows what the landscape looks like in terms of PSR in 2-3 years time. Who’s to say the rules aren’t relaxed slightly and/or we have a bigger commercial income so it matters less?

Possibly a world where we sign Watkins, Wissa and a younger striker (Samu?) for 150m after a healthy Isak sale too. Wissa can play wide and supposed pitch to Pedro, Ekitike and Delap was that there would be times we would play 2 up. Would allow us to loan out Osula too.

signing 3 players though…

Watkins, like Wissa, is a Wilson replacement. Not an Isak replacement.

I don't mind us doing 1 experienced head proven in the PL at the right price. But we should be replacing him with somebody of a similar profile to Isak himself 3 years ago. And ideally also using some of the money towards some proper recruitment in CB and CM to elevate the overall squad.

Splashing most of the fee on two strikers who potentially will never get us any financial return is just suicidal long term.

The reason we keep getting backed into PSR corners is because of the fact we started from zero at takeover and don't have assets. We had so many players who were worth nothing that we couldn't shift. Hell we still have some of them. So we keep getting into situation where clubs can exploit us for the few assets we do have - IE Gordon last year. Only the emergence of an academy player and a well scouted punt the year before got us out of that hole.

You can navigate these situations so much better when you build up a squad where most players have a value and a market and you can be more selective with who you trade and sell.

If this is how they want to play I’m more than happy to see the price rise. £5m each day closer we get to the start of the season seems fair.

Can we send them an automated voice mail of Ray Liotta saying "fuck you pay me"?

It’s also backfired plenty of times, huge gamble when we’re lowballing other strikers willing to not pay the going price so will start the season with just him in this “fuck you - you will play “ state of mind, trying to prove we’re a big club by doing this in a CL season and those extra games may just prove we’re not yet and effect us in the transfer window going forward. We need to be be firm yet professional about this, if he goes then fair enough but £120M they can go fuck themselves.

You can make him play but you can’t make him perform, I believe the isak you enjoyed last season no longer exists for us. If we’re going to move up then we need to learn to handle these situations to benefit us the most.

It’s a World Cup year, and if he has a shit year the top clubs won’t necessarily be there for him next summer, so this kind of comment is frankly bollocks

Nope it will be when we have the replacements in and then receive a fee in excess of 150 million

Who are the replacements you would be happy with then, to allow the deal to happen?

Can people stop saying "it's a world cup year". I doubt Isak particularly cares compared to the $$$ he's chasing and he'll be the first name on the team sheet regardless.

Don't you make around £70 million for a half-decent run in the Champions League? If you think Watkins and Wissa gives us a shot at Champions League football over the next couple of seasons then they're arguably paying for themselves. Of course a top young striker would be better value, but are there any of those left?

Scousers trying to rob someone shocker! The only way this could be more stereotypical would be part of his contract giving him a County Lines territory to run alongside his wage

Who the fuck do these guys think they are

I hope they infuriate our owners enough to put a "not for sale" sign on Isak and tell the Saudi clubs not to give them money for their castoffs.

So you think Sweden won’t pick him? For who exactly? and when he has one year left you think the top teams won’t still take a gamble on him for an affordable price? I may be wrong but he’s only proven three things two me he’s guaranteed to score goals, he’s guaranteed to get injuries and he’s now proven to be petty. I personally think they will still take a chance

He needs selling to someone ASAP as we need to replace him.

We don’t need the Isak money to buy his replacement this summer. We have PSR headroom now.

I’d let the fucker rot, see if he gets his dream move when he’s 28, with his injury record.

What is the significance of a transfer request? What does it change about the deal?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c77jgrj20ylo

Furthermore, the submission of a transfer request can lead to significant financial penalties for a player. Formally asking to leave while employed by a club constitutes a breach of that contract, and could mean a player is no longer entitled to contractual bonuses like signing-on fees and loyalty bonuses.

You don’t accept a lowball bid, just because the club bidding has unsettled him. They already have PSR in their favour without giving them another advantage of being able to lowball. Fuck them. Do what Brentford did to Man Utd. If they want him, it’s the initial valuation and only after we’ve got players in.

I don’t know how this makes things uncomfortable or any more awkward for us either. He’s already in Spain training on his own and we already knew Liverpool wanted him. They’ve not got a magic spell to force us to do something. Again, fuck them. If anything, tell them their offer is derisory and we’ve no interest in doing any business with them in the short to medium turn for their disrespect. We hold the cards.

I would honestly not sell him to Liverpool now regardless of the price. Spend some money on Wissa and a little more on another backup, put him in the reserves and look into the prospect of not paying him.

Obvs won’t happen but that’s what I’d like to see now.
