I hope he stays to be a legend, one thing we can agree on is at some point this will be tested.

Juventus previously pushed him onto the wing because they had Del Piero, Inzaghi and Fonseca available to play central. True, but he hadn't been playing as a central striker and was just learning his trade when he started at Arsenal. Isak's always been a striker, hasn't he? Isak's always been a striker, hasn't he? Henry played wide a lot due to him being the younger of the options, but he was always a front man playing wide rather than a wide man who then played centrally. He even talks about trying to break into the France squad, and having to to compete with Trezequet's goals to get in, when he was more of a creator at the time. Pretty sure he also says Trezequet getting picked instead made him think that he had to add more goals without dropping his creativity to get ahead

He was pushed onto the wing by Juventus. Henry was always going to be a striker.

The club obviously saw something in him and within a few months he was already worth what we paid and since..well since he’s sky rocketed. You need to look at the time we signed him not afterwards. When we signed him he was comming off a season with just scoring 6 goals in La Liga, he failed making it in Germany with Dortmund. At the point when we signed him we paid more than he was worth(overpaid), and the "gamble" paid off because his price has sky rocked since even though he has been injured 193 days since joining us in 2022. I dont think Real Socidad wanted to sell him, so we wouldnt have gotten him for the market price. ie we had to overpay to get him. Howe has got the best out of him, so he has become a fantastic player and signing, I`m not sure he would have been worth as much money if Steve Bruce was still the manager.. Comment from Terry Gibson(Ex Man Utd and La Liga expert according to Newcastle World): “I’m not slaughtering him (but) I think he’s got some way to go. I can see his obvious attributes would be appealing to clubs. But I just think £60 million…what does that make Oyarzabal (Sociedad captain) now?” “Callum Wilson, I would say, is ahead of him. But Newcastle clearly are going in the right direction. Isak is a really good player, it’s just my mind was blown by the £60 million.” Example: If you bought Tesla shares for 40 USD in 2018(worth around 20 USD) you would have overpaid for the stock, even though it has sky rocketed since and is now worth over 403 USD. If you today pay 40 USD for the Tesla share you would underpay and not pay market price.

Kanj
Unless some club forks out a world record fee for our guy, the club won’t accept it. I don’t even think he really wants to be anywhere else at this point. If he’s flying and our def and mid are halfway competent we will win trophies here or will be in Europe and he’ll be the highest paid player at our club. there is prob real or city who can do that in current world and you know who’s in their squad. SteV
Vast majority of the time you ‘overpay’ for every young player you sign, relative to what they have actually achieved. Was Lewis Hall worth £40m based on a handful of appearances for Chelsea? Of course not, but we looked at him, saw what he could/would develop into and decided that price was value. Exactly like Chelsea did with Palmer.

He is literally carrying them to the title himself. And as good as Isak is, he's nowhere near the current level of Salah. Have a hallelujah! I reckon Salah is the greatest player in Premier League history, now above Henry. Salah deserves far more credit from the Scousers, some of which should be taken from Klopp. They need a Salah statue, not a Klopp one.

A 32 year old Martin Braithwaite scored 10 goals in La Liga last year and he couldn't make it in the Championship in his prime. Not really a league known for it's difficulty is it? Januzaj was good in Spain ffs. Fact remains, Hojlund at 21 has 4x the amount of European goals Isak has. That's in a team most people consider to be massively misfiring, with the one of the main criticisms being how the wingers don't get the ball into the striker. Nobody really talks about Isak's record in Europe for some reason while they're glazing him. But here, he got a hat-trick against Ipswich, give him the Ballon d'Or. Porto, Bodo/Glimt and Plzen. The season both were in the Champions League, Isak scored 1 in 5. Hojlund scored 5 in 6, including against Bayern. Hojlund was 19, Isak was 23 Gentle reminder, the comparison wasn't mine. It was simply a talk of potential, and Hojlund is getting written off despite having more goals, the same amount of assists, more trophies and more importantly more Premier League player of the month wins than Isak had at this stage of his career. This while is playing in a massively dysfunctional team where he doesn't get any service while Newcastle are having the time of their lives. We can revisit in four years and see if Hojlund has progressed enough to bully Ipswich. Edited January 2 by Froggy
