Alexander Isak: has a chance to play against Everton (Howe)

Les was significantly better than Shearer in the air, surely. Shearer was brilliant in the air from set pieces granted.

I think that's what I said?

Not quite. Despite being taller than Shearer and especially Ferdinand, he's not anywhere near as good in the air as those two were.

They'd smash headers in, going straight through the defender to get the ball. Absolute monsters in the air, Sir Les especially was the best I've seen and Shearer not far behind. Isak's decent, but he's nowhere near world class aerially.

Tbf, heading is a dying art so bit unfair to judge a player on it nowadays.

He looks like he's really enjoying himself man.

Love how we look to hit him early and are finding his runs in behind more and more.

I watch the likes of Man City and Arsenal constantly ignore runs in behind from their forwards for that tedious slow build up and it does my head in.

Think the way we play really suits him and I hope he recognises this, and when that massive contract is set out for him, he signs on the dotted line!

From those who saw enough to comment, as I can only go off auld highlights; is he a better finisher than Cole or nah? Cole's scoring rate for us is an absolute joke, like. Took him 50 games to score 50 goals.  Suppose that answers itself.

He's still not quite as good as Cole in his NUFC heyday but he's getting there. I've thought for a while that he's the closest thing we have seen to Andy Cole and he plays very much like him. The comparison to Henry is absurd IMO.

On another note, the lad desperately needs a better song as that "Mackems Net" dirge is properly cringeworthy. We have got one of the best strikers in the world and we serenade him with a song related to goals scored against lower league fodder. FFS, at the very least he should be getting the "Isak's on fire/defence is terrified" song.

I remember Cole as being quite wasteful actually. But so quick and with good service from an all out attack team so he'd get quite a few chances per match.

Realised today I take it abit for granted how good he is at times. Yes we have good players dotted throughout the first 11 but he is the difference maker.

We're all praising Murphy's form and rightly so. But if he fizzes that pass into the majority of the other strikers in this league and it's probably not a goal.

Love when Isak is in the mood because he not only gets in behind and causes havoc but he also drops deep and links the play so well at times.

Agree a million percent on that.

That's not the player I remember at all. Cole was absolutely lethal for the entire time of his NUFC career. He might have had his chances created a lot by Peter Beardsley but he still always finished them.

Isak still misses 1 on 1 chances. Cole never did.

"Gets the ball and scores a goal". Never been a more accurate song about an NUFC player.

It was only at man utd that people noticed Cole missing chances... I don't think anyone ever mentioned it when he was at Newcastle.

Obviously scoring nearly every game and us riding a wave of excitement might of hid any frailties in his game

Agree with that. He became a more complete player at Man Utd but in the process lost his flawless finishing that he had with us.

Always remember one game when Cole joined Man Utd where someone else scored and Cole went to kick the ball back into the net and hit the post and the commentator said "He still can't score"

Don’t think Isak is doing anything that Remy wouldn’t have done had we kept him on. Difficult to gauge if he is the best we’ve had since Shearer. Especially when you throw Ba into the mix.

Cole was absolutely clinical for us. Great finisher.

His all round play was superb during his time here. In particular his link up with Beardsley.

Really? Isak is top top class, Remy wasn't. He wouldn't have scored as many as Isak in this team, Isak has scored 131 goals in his career at 25, Remy managed 113 in his whole career and didn't have the talent of Isak or mentality at all.

153 goals away from breaking Shearers record for us.

If he has 10 years with us like Shearer did, he’ll break it, and I think he’ll break the 300 barrier.

He'd have the potential. But I don't think it'll be reality, his body build makes me think his career will be rather short.
