I personally think people are overreacting to the cautious nature of Howe's comments. Let's remember that Howe has always been particularly cautious, almost to a fault. 

 

I remember journos laughing at Howe last year when he said the Lloyd Kelly ( I think it was him) deal was not 100% certain, even though they'd already spotted him in the same building as the pressor

Interesting that in the interview on the club site he still maintains that the reason Isak wasn’t there was simply because they were managing his minutes, ie the pre-match story.

 

whatever the situation this needs to be brought to a head very quickly so if we need a replacement we can start on that otherwise there will be nobody decent left who is willing to come. Man U are allegedly already considering Sesko.

He didn’t really need to mention half of what he did and normally you’d expect Howe to bat stuff like that away.

Does he have a direct line to PIF? I just keep coming back to last summer when he did that interview and said a lot of stuff that was clearly meant for higher up. 
 

also this is the first chance Howe has really had a chance to speak at length since last season

Really hope we’re discussing a new contract with him. I don’t think we can hold onto him longer than this season but enjoy him while he’s here and sell for big money next summer to fund a rebuild ()

Is there any particular reason for him not being fit to play a friendly? I mean those are there to get up the fitness levels.

 

Cant deny that I'm alot less sure of him staying after him being sent home in combination with the slighy weird comments from Eddie.

Had an injury at the end of last season, and came back later from summer than most. Basically the same as Joelinton except Joelinton stayed at the match.

I'm not convinced this all means Isak is leaving, but if he's saying the speculation is bothering Isak and he wanted to take him out of the spotlight, he's cocked up because he's sent it into overdrive. Whereas if Isak had just sat next to Joelinton, nothing would have really been said. Certainly a lot less than this.
