Turnbull2000
Probably not untrue to be honest. But you'd have thought (hoped) we told him that if he wants out early, it must be to the continent only and we'd sounded out the big boys in Spain/German/France. As it is, it seems we've mishandled it all terribly. We're instead allowing the breakaway clubs to do a complete demolition job on our aspirations. gdm
Looking at our targets Pedro, Sesko & Ekitike I would not be at all surprised if it’s true and we were trying to replace him with Pedro or Ekitike all along
Famous Nick
if he goes to Liverpool I bloody hope either Chelsea, City, Arsenal win the league. I want to see Liverpool not win it despite this brutal high spend. Wirtz, Isak, Frimpong, Mamardashvili, Kerkez. circa 400m. they make a fair bit back on sales but still its brutal spending on top of a side that just won the title. even a 2nd place is a big disappointment and anything less than CL semifinals. McEwan
I'm ok with it now if we get a decent fee. He gets injured a lot and it's very possible he stays, keeps getting injured, and we look back and wish we had sold him while his stock was high. Palestoon
If the Athletic article is true, looks like it's the worst case scenario of how we got here. Mismanagement from the club and player being a cunt. Makes sense as to why we pushed so hard for a big time striker earlier in the window. We've been aware he's wanted to leave all of this time and have been hedging our bets. He was probably told to wait until we have his replacement and felt like it wasn't going to happen so he forced our hand.
andyman
If there was no truth in it, I imagine Isak or someone in his camp would come out and deny everything. But no. They're just hiding and waiting.

Shearer9
Quote Mitchell had been unaware of the extent of Newcastle’s PSR problems and set about reforming their ‘trading model’. His view was that, unless the club were frugal across 2024-25, it would not be a quality academy graduate such as Elliot Anderson or a promising young signing like Yankuba Minteh that they would be forced to sell. The fear was it would be Anthony Gordon, Guimaraes or, most worryingly of all, Isak — and for a knockdown price. This is the context in which contract-renewal talks for Isak were postponed. Having assessed Newcastle’s cost base, Mitchell did not believe the club had the PSR capacity to extend the striker’s contract. This was not a decision based on performance — in 2023-24, Isak had become the first Newcastle player since Shearer to score 20 or more goals in a Premier League campaign — but economics. If this is true, this was when the critical decision was made regarding Isak. If you’re not willing to pay top players their market value, then your hand is going to be forced. The rest is just details. if Isak does leave, expect more of the same with other top players, it’s coming
Deuce
2 hours ago, Stifler said: Is it? Their owners tried to steal control of football through project big picture. They then a few months later tried to cause massive damage to domestic and European football by helping found the ESL and join it. They employed a manager who at the same time as getting arguing for the 5th substitute under the guise of players playing too much (which benefitted the bigger clubs) also changed the landscape of stoppage time meaning games regularly have 15 minutes added on now. They have rebuilt 2 stands at Anfield which still means that their stadium is behind others, and doesn’t allow them to host UEFA finals (including Euro’s games) and means that the first rows of seats have to be closed for Liverpool UEFA matches. They aren’t well ran, they are well financed. Surely being financially sound indicates that they’re also well-run. Reckon it’s between them and City for the most competent ownership in the league. They have a massive assist by virtue of being a cartel member, but look how ManU, Chelsea, and even Arsenal to some degree have squandered that advantage. Maybe they have, maybe Eddie told him he’s a Newcastle player contracted for another 3 years and to stay at home, have a think and clear his head, that he didn’t want him distracting and drawing attention away from the tour and that it would be dealt with when he is back in the UK. Lots of maybes filling the vacuum of no factual news.
