After weeks of hearing Liverpool praised as transfer grandmasters and shrewd operators, it’s both hilarious and slightly infuriating that their big move amounts to an offer we'd never contemplate accepting.

I hope if anything this has shown Isak exactly what he's up against. If Liverpool were half as serious as the press briefings they've shoved up Fabrizio Romano suggest, they'd have started at an offer at least approaching our valuation. Instead they've tried to say with a straight face that Isak is worth less than Florian Wirtz and Philippe Coutinho.

Ridiculous football club.

I don't think this transfer is over. I think Liverpool are playing the long game. First bid rejected (which they knew it would be), and now the ball is in Isaks court to kick up more fuss to bring our valuation down.

Imo. Which means nowt.

Aye, and if they try that with Isak next summer good luck to them cos they'll have much stiffer competition from bigger clubs

Love to see Yasir tell FSG to back off or they might find PIF blocking their financial streams or something along those lives!!!

Remember when it used to be fun, close season. Pick up the Sun on holiday for 2 quid, lay at the beach reading about some random striker from Denmark who had signed.

Thoroughly exhausting all this shite, and I'm not even on X. Fuck Liverpool, fuck Isak, fuck them all.

I'm glad we're holding firm, hopefully this kicks some life into our owners and we start to fight the bastards back at their own game.

Halycon days those pal, took me back did your post. Being a young lad on holiday with my parents and sister, nagging dad to give me the sports section of the paper so I could read the latest transfer gossip! Good times.

Ability to access news 24/7 with 90% of it being completely worthless white noise has objectively made life worse. You're not even getting that much more information than you did in the newspaper days, you just have to invest extra effort into sorting out the actual news from the nonsense.

Don't disagree with you mate. The element of excitement when you read something for the first time or there was major football news, was class as a kid.

There’s nothing for Liverpool to lose here. Either they get the player, or/and they manage to completely unsettle Newcastle and Isak. Isak becomes a “prisoner” — that’s the narrative being pushed. Newcastle’s “project” grinds to a halt. No one wants to join, and eventually everyone wants to leave.

Liverpool are playing a long term game here aimed at derailing Newcastle — a club that, if the pieces fall into place, could become a direct and even stronger competitor.

Case of who blinks first now.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed but Isak has a really weird blink. Gordon does too.

There was still plenty of nonsense in those halcyon days. Look at much of the milquetoast reporting in Vietnam until 1967-68. But the nonsense and toxicity is greater on so many orders of magnitude in this era.

We can't meet the asking price on a player: stupid lowballing club with absentee owners. We're doomed forever.

Can’t help but feel the fans are partially to blame for this. Best striker in Europe and all we could muster was ‘who put the ball in the mackems net’.

Be even more painful when the scousers are serenading him with some witty original tune.

Think this will feel like when Cantona left Leeds for the Mancs, very painful.

On the positive front  ‘who put the ball in the mackems net super Olly Watkins’ will be easy to manage for the masses after December.

How do you think Jacob Murphy feels?
