If that doesn’t go well, expect a deal agreed with Leipzig for Sesko to follow imminently. Do you know whether this is new contract talk? Or just asking him to stick around for another year. I guess there would be no plans for Sesko and Isak being part of the same squad, based upon that.

I'd say 'Alex, if we can get someone in, you can fuck off, otherwise we're stuck together for another season'.

He should be getting a dressing down for acting this way, but still with the bridge intact. No matter what he decides, we should get a quality striker in. It is also more leverage against him if he thinks we are ok with benching him.

He’s the most sought after striker on the planet and is likely being offered to double his wage. We don’t NEED his permission, but it makes absolute sense to try and bargain with him if we want him to stay another year while we sort a replacement. We’d need his head in the right place, if that’s an extra £50k and a release clause then so be it.

We get his head right by giving the Wilson replacement a first team spot first few games while he considers how stupidly he’s acted this summer by foregoing pre-season with the rest of the first team. Then when the penny has dropped that he’ll need to perform at his best to get his move next year and do well in the world cup is when he gets his chance to redeem himself and earn the starting place through training and acting like a grown up in the intermediate period. I trust Howe to manage this situation something like this btw. To reward this behaviour would set a terrible precedent. No player is bigger than the club, not even Alexander Isak. I think this is fairytale stuff to be honest, it’s not the real world. You aren’t keeping Isak for another year on the terms he’s on know, it’s absolutely not happening and if it does, you’re not getting the best version of him next year and it’s naive to think otherwise. If he stays, it will be improved terms to compensate for the loss of salary of a move to Liverpool and a release clause, can’t see any other scenario. Do they not wear 1-11 for internationals? Should he change to 14 every 2-4 years when they qualify for a tournament and it is squad numbers? Do players, other fans and the media put as much stock in THE FAMOUS NUMBER NINE as some of our fans seemingly do? I doubt it.
