Isn't there a precedent set years ago about a player buying out his contract? The Webster rule or something? Is Isak being cheap? 

 

Marcotti mentioned on his podcast last week I think it was and this is a very rough recollection as wasn't paying too much attention, that at the end of each season the player has a small window (maybe 15 days) that he can essentially tell the club he isn't playing for them anymore and join another club, compensation will be decided by a tribunal and will only include stuff like wages outstanding over the remainder of the contract, and that the tribunal ruling would take somewhere in the region of 18 months, so if we don't sell for max value, we are playing dangerous game, or something along those lines, as I said, wasn't paying too much attention, but it's a newish ruling

The cost would be around 60m apparently (and we can appeal to CAS for more) which Isak would need to predominately pay himself out of his own pocket. Additionally, he wouldn't be able to join another English club. It's not really a concern at all. If he's not prepared to give up on a loyalty bonus by putting in a transfer request this window, he's not going to pay tens of millions of pounds, when he'd likely be sold anyway that summer.

My preference is to sign two strikers and then loan him to Turkey or Saudi after the English deadline passes.

 

We will get less for him next summer in all likelihood but we should get a loan fee this year to offset to some extent. Even still, long term getting 100m for him after the end of June next summer is much the same as getting 120 for him now.

 

(This of course depends on how our PSR figure is looking for next season. If signing two strikers without selling him this summer puts us in major danger, maybe we have to bite the bullet and let him go)

Wonder if this has potential ramifications for other players down the line.
