Isak foregoing a "loyalty bonus" is a fucking joke and doesn't give us any more money to spend on a replacement. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c8904kw17j0o It absolutely would 'give us more money' (headroom) as it all is on the books for accounting purposes. Anything other than that is saying we’re happy to stockpile ahead of “spending it wisely” next summer whilst we grind through the season putting all hope for goals in a 23 year old newbie, Will “Tom Hanks from Big” Osula and non scoring sensation Gordon. Andy84
Didn’t respect FC not say £110 million was a maximum fair market value ? Couldn’t have talking horseshit now could they? They would have paid up to £140 million imo

As much as I want Isak to rot and/or play for us again, you can understand how the club can’t countenance that with the money involved. It’s like writing off your most valuable asset. Hate everything about the deal TBH, but I imagine it’s at least partly money related. While PIF can afford to write Isak off easily, NUFC can’t. Anyone who seriously thought 'let him rot' was a viable option was living in cloud cuckoo land tbh. As if we'd risk a £130m+ asset just depreciating and depreciating. Craig
Have to just hope this gives us a bit more flexibility with FFP over the next few years allowing us to continue to spend while continuing to grow revenue. Although the fee could have been higher it could be what we need to give us time to get closer to the likes of Spurs financially.

What do you mean by “letting this break?” I don’t think it was the club, isaks agent or someone linked to isak did, that was never in the clubs control. We tried our best to keep him and he didn’t want to know, realising statements and photos of him in a red tracksuit.

RS
Isak has played the game to perfection. Any club hamstrung by ffp has no choice but to sell. Without selling we can’t afford to buy another striker. What I do tend to find is that this kind of behaviour doesn’t come with out some kind of divine retribution down the road. Selling is short term thinking. Long term the precedent is set. The club's statement about only selling when conditions are met now looks laughable. When the club tries to bluff or finds itself in a game of brinkmanship in future, it will be weakened because everyone remembers Isak. When players don't get what they want, they'll remember how Isak successfully got his move. It's the long term where this sale doesn't make sense. HayDen Traces
In practical terms, what ffp headroom does this give us now? Surely we've a decent wedge to spend?

It's absolutely pathetic from the club to buckle given Liverpool have bullied them into it. Brentford can withstand pressure, why cant we? We've let Liverpool dictate the terms for probably the best striker in the world. It's soft as shit from the club. I fully expect Wissa will be sold today. He is not staying at Brentford this season. You cant keep an unhappy player at the club. Its untenable.

I'm not sure how soft we are for selling someone for £130m, but I think if reintegration was impossible then we only had one choice and that was to sell him for as much as we possibly could. I dunno, I feel like I'm just kinda over it. There's been flickers of 'hope' (if you can call it that), but it always seemed inevitable that he'd go. tarie4
I reckon it all boiled down to one thing, right? Could Eddie get him back in the team? If not, that's probably why he was sold. No point having a player dragging the team down for a few months, with Eddie having to answer questions about him in every press conference and all that. It'll mess with the team. Remember, Isak didn't want to be here, so just take the money and let him go. Let's get a new forward now, and we'll be in a good spot to smash the season.
