danswan
Liverpool sold a world beater in Fernando Torres to Chelsea for amazing money despite him having a bad run of form prior to the sale. He was never the same player at Chelsea...
Cf
But if 300k at 6 years is accurate that's £93.6m over the course of the contract. There's certainly a type of player who thinks they've made it at that point and lose their drive. See also Man Utd for the past decade. He should be winning things with Liverpool which you think would help. He's clearly an exceptionally skilled footballer but there's always been questions of drive, effort, and fitness. Being set for life financially over his peak years potentially moves the dial towards "fuck it".

I just really hope Slot is one that is stubborn with his approach and doesn't change it, because the way they play currently, is going to make it difficult for him to perform like he did at Newcastle. He might not have appreciated it at the time, but he benefited from being the main man at Newcastle. Murphy for example would always try to find him, Salah or Ekitike might think they can score themselves. There's no doubt he's a top striker, but whether he will suit how they play, we don't really know that yet.
Mattoon
There is a universe where Isak was in a purple patch in 2024/25 and now he's reverting to mean and the disruption in his preseason took away that confident purple patch. Maybe we sold him at peak performance? I'd love to think this was the case and we've offloaded another Andy Carroll onto the dippers.

Normally you'd think people are jumping the gun far too quickly about their signings and that they'll end up with egg on their faces when they end up being really good. With this I think we're all just getting in there while we can and enjoying them being shit. Well, he might be in for a bit of a rough time if most teams park the bus against them. Obviously in gamestates that allow him more space, then that's suited for him.

However it's still a new team, new system and different obstacles facing low blocks more often.

kingxlnc
He's too good not to eventually pick up the pace and sort himself out Already we've seen flashes of his jinky runs just the finish hasn't been there, ring rust Wissa will also have a lot of ring rust when he comes back too

RS
I’m really hoping he’s turned into peak “big wage” Darren Bent. Too tired carrying his wallet around to perform.

Long may this continue though Will he? No doubt he will get better, but he doesn’t have Murphy, Barnes and Gordon creating chances for him, he has Salah and Gakpo who prefer to take the chances themselves
The College Dropout
Isak has always had trouble with his stamina with us. Not being involved in full pre season training will have impacted him. Also Eddie’s tactical and coaching style requires real sharpness that suited Isak’s performances. I don’t know if Slot has him as focussed or sharp mentally and physically. His carry on hasn’t helped him. But I think he’s too good to be a massive flop and im Not invested in how he does at all because I respect him to do well in the end. Now FLORIAN WIRTZ? I felt it from the jump - he’s giving Kai Havertz & Mario Goetze vibes. I never thought he was as great as being made out. For the money they’ve paid he has to be close to KDB good. Is he Mesut Ozil good? I’m not convinced.
The College Dropout
Salah has been supreme in terms of creation in the last few years. He’s not doing the greedy thing anymore. The issue is - will the wider team and setup be optimised for him. Even if they aren’t - he’ll be good for a decent amount of goals anyway.

Agree with this. I think Isak has a hugely talented. But he’s not a Zlatan type cash money striker wherever he goes. His record shows he’s capable of a prolonged stinker. But he’s also clearly a proper player too. Howe unlocked that and there’s no guarantee Slot will. He was clearly over arrogant. To destroy your reputation at a club like Newcastle so easily you must be super arrogant that you’ll make a bigger reputation elsewhere. He’s thrown away a lot of love. LaurentRobert
On a broader note, it feels like a case of too many cooks at Liverpool. Salah, Isak, Ekitike and Wirtz all want to be the main character and as a result they're a bit of an incoherent mess at the moment. Could be reminiscent of the early 00s Real Madrid galacticos era. Palestoon
Hate this cunt, but cant help but think an Isak/Woltemade duo would have been footballing perfection. Would have complimentd each other beautifully with Big Wolt behind the rat... Edited October 1, 2025 by Palestoon
