Based on absolutely nothing at all, I think Isak will sign a new contract in the summer but with a release clause well in excess of £100 million. 

I also think he'll head to Munich with Kane coming here.

I think Isak is quite rightly exercising some leverage to get the club to sign players. It’s totally in our gift to show him we’re seriously ambitious

We're not fishing in the same pond though. It's abundantly clear that we get the players the big 5 or so aren't interested in. I know it's frustrating but it's true isn't it? I'm not being pessimistic but I've supported Newcastle long enough to recognise how things are. It's also why I think players from abroad are a better option. Established Prem players want Chelsea, City, Liverpool even fkn Man U ffs.

As long as it attitude and application are good I couldn’t see us losing much value even with 12 months on his contract. Just gambling on a contract run down when that close.

 

His current contract puts the power in our hands rather than him and his agents with no buyout clause. Extending and adding one wouldn’t necessarily be to our benefit unless the figure is £160+m as you’ve the barometer of Wirtz deal now to compare and contrast against.

Obviously we should never sell a player like Isak but he has almost become too good for us. Top 3 striker in the world should be playing in a team challenging for the CL trophy every season and earn much more than we could ever pay in the near future.

 

I'm absolutely certain that he isn't going anywhere this summer but it's a different story next summer. There are maybe five teams in the world who could sign him and those clubs have massive pull even when Isak loves NUFC and Newcastle. Not really worried about PL teams buying him but Barca especially must be looking at him with Lewa's age, hope their finances are still a mess. PSG and Bayern are a bit scary too, PSG don't really have a striker and Kane is getting older too.

£150m feels like a world record, given the absolutely bizarre price tag PSG paid for Neymar, which no-one has come close to since.  And ultimately if the player wanted a move, the club’s resolve is unlikely to last.

 

I still don’t think he leaves this summer, in part because none of his likely destination clubs have the needs nor the funds at present.  He goes to a European giant when he does go - next summer looks a far more likely moment for it to happen.

 

Just enjoy him while we have him - and who knows, he might be here even longer than that

As a least worst exit strategy, I do like this sometime in the future. Swapsies are great for PSR, and we'd get about as high a level replacement as we could expect without spending a fortune. Kane is still killing it, has years left, and would be highly motivated to beat Shearer's PL goal record. The main thing would be to have mega speed, like Gordon and a RW like Elanga, in front of Kane. 

Bayern would get the Isak magic in big games. Only one CL semi in five years since they last won it. Isak's record vs. Arsenal and Liverpool shows he can turn up and deliver when it matters. This costs big money.

Aye, we've sold our best players to bigger clubs since forever. Don't think we're anywhere near changing that at the minute. It's just realism and learning from the past. 

Not the club's fault either. There's just a pecking order and at least 5 or 6 clubs get first pick.

If he smashes the PL and CL for another season and stays fit, then fair enough he's definitely one of the best forwards in the world. I still think at the moment that tiny group of elite teams might need more confirmation before paying the kind of money it would take to get him. Mainly just his stamina and fitness.
