Let's try and do it better the next time we have one like this... We got him when he was judged as raw by a country that doesn't even much like football.

He was raw as buggery, and we tried to farm him out at too high a level - the loans we gave the kid were absolutely ridiculous.  He wasn’t even a regular starter here in the A-League.  I feel sorry for the lad tbh.

Feels like we missed a trick not deepening the relationship with Bristol Rovers. Enthusiastic fanbase, sympathetic level of football. Although staying with us for the first 12 months was probably the right move.

Maybe he was just never very good to begin with. Freddy Adu was insanely hyped and wasn't very good at all.

Totally agree, would’ve been a perfect move for the lad

He never looked anywhere near it to me tbh - it was all built around 45 mins in a friendly against Barcelona, who looked as interested as we did against the same side (the A League XI).  He was very, very raw - he wasn’t a regular starter for Central Coast at the time (apropos of nowt I’m heading off there in about an hour for a day with my partner’s family).  Australia isn’t exactly a football hotbed, and the locals who do watch it got themselves a wee bit overexcited about the lad

This!

He was really young and had never been a first 11 player consistently.

The move there has to be a year at the club playing regularly for the under 21s to evaluate his level, and then make a call on the appropriate level of club for him to go on loan to.
