This quote boils my piss.  It's the argument given for Pickford.  He has been at best average this season but mostly pretty crap. However people like you will say he plays great for England.  How on earth are other English players supposed to get a cap?  It makes the selection process a mockery.

It's barely an argument tbh, if players play well for England it stands to reason that they'll get picked, if they don't they won't.

This idea that club form is the be-all-and-end-all is the wrong way around imo. Look at Pope, undoubtedly the best 'keeper in the league this season, would fully deserve to be England number one on club form - comes in, immediately fucks up playing for England. So do you continue playing him because he's been class for Newcastle? Or play Pickford who's not been as good at Everton but has been consistently solid for England for years? It should be obvious, you play the player who plays well for England, every time.

An unbelievable load of cobblers.  I'm the exact opposite of your position.

We'd end up with about 15 squad changes every game which would be an even bigger mockery.

So the best English goalkeeper in the Premier League can't get a game for England?  And you think that's ok?

You do get players who play better on the international stage than they ever really have for their club. First ones that come to mind are Miroslav Klose and Podolski

Think Harry Maguire is possibly in that category too

Whichever side you're on, it's fucking depressing wasting this generation by having Maguire as the starting CB. He's been shite for such a long time time now.

By your reckoning, Pope has been fairly average since the World Cup (average harsh, but making errors the last month), so shouldn't have been in this England squad to begin with.

Rubbish.  Not sure what you have been watching.  I'm pleased you're not one of our scouts.

So you've not seen him go to jelly when the ball was at his feet since Liverpool? (like he did in his last England outing)
