Will admit having read a few of the articles on The Athletic about this tournament, that I have been semi looking forward to it even though I know it's a vanity project for Infantino and it's a tournament that is most definitely not needed. A chance to see teams like Boca Juniors and all that

Even the most pernicious and hollow version of this tournament (i.e. the one we're getting) is at the very least intriguing. It's a shame it has to be like this because if it was done the right way - surrounded by sensible decisions regarding the calendar and governance and allocation of prize money and everything else - it could be a fantastic thing to have. Palmeiras vs Porto? Yes fucking please.

I think it’s a good idea, it is just hard to get it to work practically. It means that if you have it in the summer then pretty much every club outside of Europe has to interrupt their season.

If you have it in the winter, then the European teams have to interrupt their season. In all fairness, having it 2-3 weeks later would have worked better for the European clubs, as it could have been a pre-season build up for them.

It's a good idea in theory but where and how do you fit it into the footballing calender without risking burnout on the players?

You can’t really, unless for the European teams at least it’s used as a pre-season friendly.

The only other alternative is to replace our respective Champions Leagues with a global season long CWC. How it would work playing someone away in Australia on a Wednesday night, and being back to play Burnley on the Saturday is more difficult.

Yep, or allow teams to pull out of a domestic tournament the way Man Utd did with the FA Cup in 2000? But if you allow that then you diminish domestic cups.

Looking forward to watching Paris in an hour though mind.

I think its only really Auckland City who are going to be whipping boys so this was always going to give the tournament a real bad look especially with it being only the second game.

That's not the only thing that'll give this absolute fucking farce a bad look

Any Sunderland fans watching this Bayern v Auckland match will be getting a right feel for how it’s going to go in the PL for them.

We'd give Auckland a game, marra.

Edgar Davids should be invited to Soccer Aid every year after the time he kept getting into unnecessary scuffles with Jonathan Wilkes.
