It's a horrible list.

Ali Dia, Bebe, Kleberson, Djemba-Djemba, Taibi to name a few should never make a list like this. Djemba-Djemba was signed as a 22 year old kid and was sold on after two seasons while recouping most of the fee ffs. Taibi arrived as a Bosman and left after six months. Bebe might have been garbage but he was signed for under £8m in 2010 and I'm pretty sure they got very close to recouping that fee from all the loans and then Benfica. How could he ever be the 3rd worst signing in PL history? :dontknow: He probably shouldn't make the top 250 worst PL signings.

Not even a whiff of Veron at £28.1 Million in 2001

There’ll be no shade thrown at Juan Sebastian Veron in this chat thank you very much.

What do people think? Any massive errors/omissions made by the ones making that ranking, or fairly spot on?

I’m glad they didn’t put Guiv’arch in there like a lot of these lists do.

always felt he was hard done by. He only played 4 games and even scored once. We’ve had much worse strikers.

he had a decent pedigree too not sure why he wasn’t allowed to settle.

Mbappe gets a 1 game ban for that atrocious foul, meaning he's available for the Copa del Rey against Barca.

Yet according to Tebas state owned clubs are the problem

Gullit spent the summer as a World Cup pundit criticising his performances. Two months later he was his manager. Was never getting a chance, whether he deserved one or not.

Always find Afonso Alves a weird one on these lists. I do remember him being largely crap, but 10 goals in 42... there's got to be big money buys with worse records than that surely?

Straight away I think of Ricky van Wolfswinkel - similar fee to Alves, 1 goal in 25 appearances.

I think 12 mill at that time was a huge fee, particularly for Boro, and ultimately they ended a lengthy stay in the Prem 18 months after he signed.

I'm sure most of his goals came in only a handful of games too - remember a hat trick in that weird 8-1 win against City.

All I can remember is the ridiculous Brazilian style fanfare they had at the stadium when he signed, and him bagging a couple in a big win over Man U.

Agree he was expensive and overall a bad buy, I just think there's probably worse strikers with far poorer goal records to squeeze into a top 25.

That’s a shame, he was a World Cup winner and had been top scorer in France two years running. Was looking forward to seeing him alongside Shearer. The equivalent today with that track record would cost a bomb.

Personally I don't think you could ever say signing someone with such a great name was a bad thing, regardless of performance.
