The Europeometer™ (2024/25) - NUFC Qualify for Champions League

I think the Brighton away game will be pivotal for us.

If City beat Villa then I think we pip Villa on goal difference only.

If Villa beat City then we will need to beat Brighton to finish above City.

If Villa and City draw then we need to beat Brighton to pip  Villa.

Assuming we win all our home games, get beat off Arsenal and City and Villa win all their games which on paper looks doable. If Villa make up their goal difference then a win at Brighton would be needed. It's also assuming Forest don't capitulate, which I don't think they will.  Getting beat off Brighton is unthinkable for us.

It’s worth remembering that Man City and Villa play each other through the week (acting as their weekend), and Chelsea and Forest play each other on the last day.

That is 2 games where at least 1 of our rival are going to drop points, and that’s on top of their own patchy form.

Aside from Man City because they are Man City, I can’t see anyone else winning all their games. Teams will drop points where they aren’t expected to do so. I honestly think Forests’ ass will drop.

In fact if I was betting, I think it will be Forest and Chelsea who drop out.

Things could be looking a lot better for us this time next week. We as a fanbase and also the squad can’t get too hung up offer yesterday. There is an argument to be had that Villa maybe the hardest fixture we have left until the end of the season.

Lets be honest.. Forest will fall away and Chelsea aren't a real threat whilst they are bickering with each other and have a tough fixture list.

Top 5 will be.

1. Liverpool

2. Arsenal

3. City

4. Newcastle

5. Villa

We really need City to win on Tuesday. Villa winning would be a disaster as can see them getting at least another 10 points after that game with the fixtures they have .

Agree it’s not my preferred outcome but it’s hardly a disaster. Would leave us a point ahead of Man City with a game in hand and a point behind Villa also with a game in hand. Not to mention potentially in good positions relative to Chelsea and Forest.

We’ve needed Villa to drop points for awhile and they just keep winning.  I think that’s 7 in a row?

If they beat City they’ll fancy themselves to win all but 1 of their remaining games at least.

For Villa to pip us (assuming we get 68 points) they need to win 11 out of 12 or so in total. So fair fucks.

They will beat City unfortunately. 90% sure of it. Wish to God that I’m wrong but I don’t see it.

Beaten by the better team on the day, there wasn't a single area of the pitch they didn't dominate and perform better in, they have a starting 11 as good if not slightly better than ours, and their squad as a whole is head and shoulders above ours.

I think the main thing for Howe and our coaches to take away from that was our mentality after going 2-1 down, we became rushed and sloppy and lost our heads and played right into their hands, none more so than our captain, we're a very good side now not a lower mid table basket case we've got to be better than that, the captain definitely needs to be better than that.

If they beat City I think they will get a minimum of 69 points.

I think both sides would be happy with a draw. Definitely City.

I long assumed 68 points would be enough. Still think it will be but GD might play a factor.

Aye so they need a mega run of 9 wins in 10 or something right?

Thing with Villa is they have a great squad.  They didn’t look tired because they have quality in depth. 4 wins and a draw gets them to 70 points.  Thats not a crazy ask from here.

Think there is a classic over hyping Villa on here after last night. They’re a good side and were much better on the day but they’re still behind us for a reason

They’ve also been juggling Europe and we haven’t, I didn’t see the game as I was out so can’t comment that much but we beat each other quite a bit but it just seems they must have more depth then us and this point of the season it will show.

Villa aren't being overhyped. They're winning again and again, smashed us yesterday + almost eliminated PSG.

Over the last couple of months, they've arguably been the best English team.

We've let Villa smell blood now that the gap has been closed to only 2 points. Yesterday was a 6 pointer.

We need to crush that hope now with wins.

Yeah I dont think Villa is overhyped at all. They had alot of poor results understably after their CL games before they filled out their squad in January. Would have been more scared of them if they were at equal points/GD as City.

All rests on getting Howe back for us imo. Should be okay against Ipswich, but if he isn’t back after that, I think we struggle to make top 5.

I think on balance we can just about manage they Brighton away match too but I agree regarding the Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton matches.
