Thing is they have a squad. Real, genuine depth and Emery isn't shy of rotation. We all (us, Villa, Chelsea, Man City) have games against each other so you'd imagine points will be split across the board

Win all of our home games and we’re on 68 points. 3 draws from the away’s and it’s the same number of points as 22/23 but we’ll prob need more points than last time due to the extra competition around us. We need to win at least one of the away games v Villa (preferably Villa), Brighton and Arsenal imo which won’t be easy.

As much as I don't like Everton, it's a matter of time before they start punching their way through the likes of Spurs and Man United too.

You know what would really be sexy. If Spurs or Man United got relegated. With Spurs, it's becoming more and more a possibility IMO.

 

 

New terminology will be replaced with it soon and an arbitrary start date to reinforce, because at end of the day, Sky etc will want to push narratives around games and it needs that.

Villa remind me a little of Liverpool when we finished 4th.  They have the quality and depth to do it.  They just have to be too good for too many games for it to be realistic. But we do need them to drop results asap. Funnily enough it was Villa’s Emery drawing with Liverpool that put the nail in the coffin and we did what we needed to do. 
 

 

I think we get the 68 points that we need. But I’d rather not need 3 points going into Arsenal and Everton.

Nah 68 points will almost guarantee 5th. Maybe even 66-67. I think 5th has needed less than 70 points in all but 1 season over the last 15 years. That was the most top 6 season ever.  It was like top 6 over 66 points.  The midtable is too strong for that to happen again.

We've got a great wee stadium that if full can fit in about 12500.  Our pitch at the moment is a bloody muddy disgrace. It's pretty embarrassing and non conductive to playing a quick passing game so it get the ball,punt it upfront and hope for the best lol

No real standout teams there. Man City looked like they couldn't be arsed on Sunday. They still have great players but are not playing as the team they were. The "its the KDB farewell tour" news did not motivate them either.

 

9 goals scored (joint fourth worst) in their last eight does not bode well for Chelsea, who needed Brentford to miss a couple of sitters to get a point.

 

Villa improving, but still not convincing. Like Chelsea, if we avoid defeat to them, it will go a long way toward securing CL. Id actually quite like Villa to win the CL, they're likeable and there would be the bonus of them and Emery upstaging Liverpool.

Poor Leicester fans, 9 defeats and not one solitary goal. Shame, as I quite like Leicester.

The fact it's our third game in a week and we actually get one less day of rest/prep than them is what worries me. After that though we have just one game a week for the rest of the season. I think Eddie will get the players up for a huge CL qualification week.

As I've said, I'm a Dunfermline fan too. Our club captain died in 1997 due to carbon monoxide poisoning (least said about where it took place as it's a delicate one). To this day, we still hear F*lkirk fans singing "Where's your Norrie gone". Try forgiving that, it's never gonna happen. 

 

A few years later one of their young players died due to electrocution, we didn't make 1 derogatory remark about that poor kid.

My advice, stop with the what ifs and maybes and just take one game at a time. It's less stressful on the old ticker.

CL football next year on top of getting a trophy is such a dream of a season. Makes the summer window huge for additions. If we can secure same quality levels as Tonali/Botman/Bruno/Isak etc. for positions we need strengthening then next season could be far better prepared to compete more consistently.

I get the comments about better squad depth with certain teams around us, but this is our last week coming up with three games in a week, we move to once a week for the rest of the season, while all other teams around us have 1-2 cups they’re still involved in to add distractions and congestion. If we keep our team fit I think our first 11 is better than all bar maybe City’s from those in 3rd - 7th, which I think we forget at times, and it’s not unreasonable to expect 9 or 10 of the 11 to be fresh to play one game a week for the rest of season. It’s this next week that is absolutely key to not obtaining injuries and still wracking up points.

For me it's still just fun to look at all the what-ifs as we compete much higher up the table.

 

The only thing that adds stress is the fact that the difference between 5th and 6th could be a true crossroads for the near term future of the club.

This is my take on it. We win our games and CL takes care of itself regardless of what any other clubs do.

Also, I read today that we've picked up 33 points in the last 15 games, only Liverpool have done better. Quite astonishing since I feel like we can do quite a bit better.
