We by rights should be winning our three home games, and then we'd just need to win one of our away games. We've got a good record against Villa, Brighton seem to have lost their form (and they've been a very streaky team this season I think) and we've played Arsenal three times this season, winning all three without conceding. Obviously, all three games the home teams will probably be favourite, but over the course of them I think we should win one. We've only lost 5 away games all season. Optimistic points tally would be 13 more points. On par is 9. With our form, you would aim for 10-12 points. Win our home games and get at least 1 result from an away game. Mazzy
2 minutes ago, The College Dropout said: I think 66 will cut it fine and would represent an underperformance for the rest of the season imo. Chelsea aren't getting 12pts from their next 18pts available. There's just no way they do that. Villa are more likely to, but it's unlikely seeing as they play us and Man City in their next two games and then a Semi-final and probably a final still to go this season. Decky
Imagine we were the runners up in the league this year. Been a great season this, and that's even with our huge dip in form earlier.

Don't think it's been announced yet but last year looks like it worked out at about £2.8 million per place. So I'd guess probably around £5.6-£6 million this year. Pays for Wilson and Lascelles for another year.

midds
Chelsea aren't catching us now, not a chance they make up that 5 point gap given how we're both playing with only 6 games left, they're on the manager's back and moaning about how shit they look. They also probably have 5 more European games to fit in between now and the end of the season. Which leaves Villa. Simply avoid defeat (easier than it sounds I know) on Saturday and I think we can rule them out too. We're essentially 6 points ahead given the GD and we'd only have another 5 games to play. We could all but ice it by 8pm Saturday imo. And that's not even mentioning the fact that Chelsea play Forest and Villa need to go to Man City too. Still think we'll finish 4th but that win last night was huge, it looked a tricky fixture on paper but we just bulldozed them bumping up the GD in the process, +8 for the week so far

The College Dropout
I fancy Villa against Man City man. Man City will win the last 3. But I see them dropping points before then. I fancy both Villa and Everton to cause them trouble. We can finish above City for sure.
WilliamPS
Beat Villa and Ipswich and if Villa beat Palace in the FA Cup then I think we get a thread title change to Europa league (At least), something for Tindall to whisper in the players ears at 17:29 on Saturday
Chicken Dancer
I think the day we go to Anfield/Emirates/Etihad and beat them (in the league) will change everything. Without being too critical of an absolutely amazing season, I still am not entirely comfortable with how we consistently roll over at Anfield and the Etihad without laying a glove. We've shown time and time again we can give these teams a game at St James, so I'd like to see a mentality shift away from home in the coming years. We've at least 2 - maybe 3 or 4 - players that would start for any team in the league. It will be a huge hurdle to get over for us mentally, and will give the entire club belief that one day we can win the league. I'm sure it will change, it's easy to forget this is only the 3rd full season since the takeover/Howe, it really still is in it's infancy. But we absolutely can win the league. Never, ever thought I'd think that way in my life, but with the cup win and that, the sky really is the limit. I've never been so excited for the future, it's beyond anything I could ever imagine the belief I have in the current squad and coaching staff. Strap in because it's going to be fucking amazing. Praying for a trip to Madrid in autumn! Edited April 17 by Chicken Dancer

The final against Liverpool changed things for me. I get what you're saying for sure, but I don't just mean this season. The final was a neutral venue and just reaffirmed my view that we can absolutely hang with them, so why not go to their place and play the same way? I'm not being too critical, most teams go to those places and approach the game a similar way. But beating one of them away would change the mentality for us as a club and probably the wider perspective of us too.

Or at least do what Villa have done in the CL. We'd beat this version of Real Madrid IMO. Too lazy, open and disjointed for us. Yep, this is where I am right now too. I assume we will get CL and we may have a few wobbles before end of the season in the run-in but I think there is a club, coaching and player shift in mentality that will carry us upward next season. Nail the summer window (Back Howe, Nickson, Andy Howe’s choices for first team PLEASE) and we will title charge next season.
r0cafella
Winning the league next season is too much of a ask imo. These cartel clubs have so much money to throw year after year. I think our goals have to be just keep increasing our points totals until we can close the financial gap. Even that is a big ask but it's more attainable than a title challenge. That 76-85 point range, depending on the season, is a title challenge. We speak about the cartel. Only three of them are capable of exceeding 85 points next season, and only one will do that this season. There's no point in having players like Isak and Tonali, then targeting finishing 4th or 5th for the prime years of their career. We can target a 76-85 point season next year, if we achieve that, can that unlock finances to go 85+ points? ponsaelius
I think without Europe and with 3-4 top signings we could genuinely mount a title challenge. Doing it with the current bloated European format to deal with as well is almost impossible.

You have to think long term, the money we get just from being in the CL is huge and also it massive increases the power of our brand worldwide which will allow for us to get better players and also increase commercia revenue even more going forwards. And yes I wish football wasn't all about money but unfortunately it is.
Yorkie
Just looking back at the thread from after the 32nd game in 2022/23. We were similarly confident then but inevitably it took another five games to secure it. Given the additional place it probably won't be like that this time but I'm not gonna count my chickens just yet. We need to see how we respond to a result we'd have expected to have done better in. Very confident obviously, but want Howe back asap so he can navigate that moment when it inevitably comes.

I genuinely think, if Villa had this squad at the start of the season, they would have another 6-8 points. That takes them from the bottom end of the CL battle, to pushing hard for 3 major competitions and getting CL football fairly comfortably. We can get there with 1 good window and a bit of luck.
