The Europeometer™ (2024/25) - NUFC Qualify for Conference League (at least)

Recommended Posts

We are fighting for CL with a team who breached PSR to get there (but fair play to them regardless), one who is facing a potential points deduction due to the 115 charges, one who has cooked the books for two years straight by selling hundreds of millions of assets to themselves and one who is supposedly sailing close to the wind in terms of breaching PSR all without barely spending a penny for two years to comply with these ridiculous rules ourselves.

Huge respect to Eddie and the team for what they have achieved whether we get top 5 or not.

If the decision comes out re City, and it’s a points deduction, will it happen immediately?

Think there was chatter any decision like that would be pushed into next season because of appeals.

Suppose if it happened and say it was 30 points, do Man City accept no UCL (win FA Cup they still have Europa) and just roll with it. Or appeal, miss out on UCL anyway (and potentially Europe if form stays inconsistent) and have it impact next season title challenge if it was reduced to say 8-10 points.

Feels like this season, they'd better taking the points hit if it was there and move on. Suppose the main thing they'd push back on would be if there was a transfer ban because there's a bit of work needed in summer, so may want to get that pushed back to Jan.

Take a 30 point hit now and they’re only two points ahead of Ipswich.

And yet there are news reports they're in serious PSR trouble again.

They've speculated again in January (for 6 months) to give them a fighting chance of qualifying again. We need that speculation to fail.

If they can't get more points than Ipswich from now to end of season, then they've got bigger problems to worry about :D

What if it was a 35 point penalty?

Still roll with it and back yourself on the pitch. Just feels if a points deduction does come and it's around this ball park, you are better off writing off one season fully, then let it write off the next (because it's not going to be wiped completely clean, just be lesser points).

No CL and a hefty points deduction next season would be delicious and hopefully throw the wheels off completely. I don't mind City, but they benefited far too much from the pre-PSR windrush and they need levelling out.

I feel like its between us, Chelsea and Villa. Forest have enough points on the board and i think will hold their nerve. City will finish top 5.

Villa are in good form but have a lot of fixtures coming up with CL and FA Cup Semi. They've a squad but it will be tough. Chelsea beating Spurs and getting a point away to Brentford is unfortunate. Was hoping they'd come unstuck. I dont think they're all that impressive though.

All in our own hands but my gut feeling is that we're just a little too thin squad wise and just a little too inconsistent in that we may just fall short of 5th. CL would be a massive achievement though, arguably impressive than the League Cup win.

Don’t forget the two teams with over double our revenue, total wages etc. languishing in lower midtable. Eddie and the ownership are doing a fantastic job making us competitive despite the rules put in place to prevent it, and I hope we get our just rewards.

Feels like most of those fixture lists are pretty equal. Forest and Man City probably the easiest. Chelsea the worst one maybe, but it's not that bad. Ours is about as tough as Chelseas, but we also have a few pretty easy ones on paper, and obviously we have 2 games in hand. Currently I think we are a better team than Chelsea anyways.

With no other competition and all our rivals having other comps bar Forest - our squad is fine if we can avoid further injuries and suspensions. I know with Howe we can get ourselves up for big games, especially at home.

I’ve had Man City as a given for top 5 but it’s not guaranteed.  They’re deservedly 1 point better off than Aston Villa.

Qualifying for CL feels like a watershed moment. The funds should allow us to try and properly kick on and secure a bump in our Saudi sponsorships.

I was sceptical at first. But we need to add more Sandro Tonali’s and Isak’s. We are a bit of luck and a couple quality signings away from being CL mainstays.

I do wonder with City if they would ask for any points deduction to be applied to this season and use the shallower schedule (if no Europe) next year to get some legs back into the team.

A big part of their drop off this year was the fact that some of their players had essentially done three years straight with minimal breaks.

We play Man United in the between their season defining Lyon games and we also play Villa immediately after they play PSG and immediately before they play City and then the Semi final. Hopefully means we should have legs on both.

Palace got 4 games in the next 11 days before the cup semi 3 days after that

Surely there minds will be elsewhere/ and using their squad

I stopped putting stock in that sort of stuff when we got beat by City 4-0 when the game was sandwiched between their Real Madrid CL matches. Means fuck all.

Rodri probably played too many games, but mosy of their key players dropped off due to age. It created a domino effect on the rest of the players. Their singings has been meh aswell.

Nah it’s important. We were just shit that day.  Man U will rotate and not give a fuck.

Not going to think about City’s charges.  But if they get found guilty they will have a multi year sanction for multi year breaches.  A relegation and a points deduction that will make returning to the PL not a formality.  I suspect it’s why they gave Haaland the super long contract. He’ll have to stay.

City won't be relegated, one of their many lawyers will find some loophole or other.

I've got two teams to worry about,I'm Scottish with English blood in me so I really love Newcastle, but I also really love Dunfermline who are in a totally different predicament. We're currently in the championship relegation play-off position, the team 3 points below us have over the past 6 weeks found some amazing form closing a ten point gap and we can't buy a goal for love nor money. We had 7500 fans at home on Saturday which was more than 4 spl crowds but we lost to the team 1 point below us. If we had won we'd now be 4 points ahead of that ugly playoff but now we could very easily finish bottom which is obviously instant relegation. It's still in our hands though, barely.

There is a slight chance the team that beat us (Hamilton Academical) could be deducted 6 points but I'm not counting my chickens. 7500 might seem laughable to English teams but it's a huge amount for a Scottish Championship team. Our best striker is like Mr Glass from the Unbreakable Trilogy.

To top it off,our most hated rivals who got promoted last season from league 2 are a few points away from back to back promotions.

I'm trying my best to not think about Newcastle/Dunfermline  until ten minutes before kick off. It's more stressful thinking about Dunfermline though as we should be in the SPL, not scrapping away at the bottom of the Championship trying to avoid the drop.
