England’s Anthony Gordon

My take on it is Liverpool made an enquiry and we said he's maybe available if Quansah is involved in a prospective deal, Liverpool said no and then the press release came out (from them rather than us) to make it out that we were the ones actively contacting Liverpool.

The above is all very leaned to us but a Gordon sale don't make sense.

I don’t even think Quansah would want to come here anyways tbh.

We still have loads of commercial deals to sort as well

This is still the strangest part. If we are desperate with less than 35 hours to go, sell the stadium naming rights, training ground rights, our training gear has been sponsor less for 2 years now.

something feels very off about all of this. We could even take that £3m for Daniel titchmarsh.

Where is the benefit of selling a player like Gordon to avoid a PSR punishment? We avoid a points deduction? Are they afraid of a points deduction costing us a champions league spot because they need to realise fast that selling our best players will have the same result. A points deduction of about 2 or 4 points could still see us qualifying for the CL.

I’ll believe these Gordon stories when it comes from Ornstein or Caulkin or Waugh. I’m certain we don’t sell Gordon unless the money is truly daft 100m +

Reflects well on him that big competitive clubs are interested, may ultimately contribute to harder-to-rebuff demands for better salary

And he gets to go home

This is all a fkn shambles if true. The club have known the situation for ages man. Needing to sell a player who has settled in so well and who the fans love is suicide. They'll get hammered for this and rightly so. As has been previously written, this has Ashley vibes all over it. Thought those days were long gone ffs.

The debate to be had here is not whether or not any deal happens, it’s whether we are actually looking to sell. If it is conclusively revealed that we are, and to a supposed rival in the same league, then they have no idea of how badly that will be received. The optics of this are just horrendous, regardless of how much truth there is in it.

You don’t get to be that rich by being as incompetent as selling your player of the season and one of the few players that was available the whole season to boot just to prevent a points deduction when you’ve always said this is a long term projects.

I just don’t buy it - the press have seen how much we bite and are winding us up man.

It’s us potentially offering him out which is the sickener.

Aye 100% and what will Gordon make of it ? Someone at the club seems to be making Howes job really difficult

How many points does Gordon win us each season, does that amount to more than the points deduction if we fall foul of the Big 6 protection racket?

This is the future of football , what a fucking farce man.

Will be absolutely defeated if this happens. Proper Andy Cole moment and demand Eddie appears on the steps!

More annoying one of my scouse supporting mates told me this was happening a month ago and I said it was pretty unlikely. Be just as annoyed if he is right lol

Press making mischief I reckon, perhaps aided by clubs that would benefit from unsettling a player they're interested in. There's no benefit for us in offering Gordon around but there's plenty benefit for Liverpool and others to this story suddenly appearing.

Got to believe all these stories are made up rubbish as if not the game is dead. We've not gone crazy spending ridiculous money but we're supposedly forced to sell one of our star players or any youngster who might have potential. How can any club build success and if that's true what is the point in supporting any club outside the current big six.

I'm siding on it being made-up rubbish as I feel there is a shift in the media narrative to try and remove any moment/positivity the club is building. Could do with the club releasing some positive PR to counter all this noise.
