absolute bollocks. he was the first one out with his bairn and he didnt leave until after the group photo.

Yeah, when he was subbed at HT, I worried he'd take it badly, especially against Everton. But he seemed in good spirits after the game, on the pitch.

Some differing views on AG but I think it's hard to deny his attitude and mentality have looked off for most of the season. Which is interesting given he reads a lot of books etc on mentality.

I think there's a really good player/lad in there, and hopefully after a rest and refresh he comes back better next season. But if his head/heart isn't in it, for whatever reason, I'd sell for a good offer.

Had a poor season generally with a couple of decent performances, hope he resets for next year.

If his head has been turned by Liverpool last summer then id get rid as his attitude, workrate this year been shocking.

Feel like him getting into the England squad and Liverpool wanting him might have affected him

Why sign a new long term contract then?

Probably a better financial backage for him and gives us more security with the longer contract which keeps his value high.

Win win for both parties.

He could have asked for a release clause if Liverpool come calling for example, nobody knows.

Get your point, but still seems a little weird. Have there been any credible reports about his head bring turned?

Howe’s own words:

"He's such a talent. We need him absolutely firing and I think this will help him, no doubt, get back to his very best... It was a difficult summer for him, there's no doubt about that. I think it was a difficult summer for a lot of the players.

"Through no fault of their own, they're reading headlines on their futures, which can be destabilising, which can lead to a lot of needless energy wasted and a lot of distraction."

If I was Eddie, I'd be sitting down with him to ask if he really wants to be here. If his heart isn't in it then make him available for transfer. We'll get good money for him,or he'll buck up his ideas next season.

When he played on the right.

I spent most of yesterday's game (and probably every game they've played together) muttering to myself to switch Gordon and Barnes.

Wouldn't be disappointed if he was sold this summer.

Also would be happy if he stays, benefit of the doubt given for this season and see how he gets on next season.

He absolutely has to improve though, for where we are, and want to be, he needs to be better otherwise he needs replacing.

If he is having some sort of mental block then Eddie is just the person to support him and get him through it. I remember Willock when he had that long spell out injured saying how supportive the boss he had been. He said that Eddie spoke to him every single day during that period

Going by this season alone,he's not Champions League quality. The potential is there though. Maybe the Champions league will bring out the best of him. Maybe not.

Newcastle United's brush with the PSR rule book was not pleasant for the players.

The Magpies had to do a mad dash of selling one or two young players to balance the books.

While midfielder Sean Longstaff understands why the process occurred, he admits it was nerve wracking for players.

Per Chronicle Live, Longstaff said: "We’re not stupid, we'd seen all the stuff with financial fair play and who was on the table and who wasn't on the table and stuff.

“I think at that point, the way it seemed, I think everyone sort of had their price and yeah, unfortunately for Elliot, the day after it was done, I think we were all in running together and he came in and you just sort of gave him a big hug.

As far as I know the rumour at the time was that we, the club, had offered him to Liverpool in a desperate attempt to balance the books. This is what Longstaff was talking about, how players were scared of getting "thrown out" at the time. It seems like this is what Howe means when it comes to Gordon. He read headlines about the club choosing him as their sacrifice of choice. As a player that isn't the nicest thing you can read when the tension was already high due to the PSR situation.

Was rewatching some of the extended highlights on the YouTube channel and one that stood out was the home game against Arsenal in the league.

He played right wing with Joelinton on the left. He was fantastic and looked really dangerous there. Put in a great shift defensively aswell as the assist for the goal.

So can't for the life of me understand why he never played there again it seemed, not even briefly to swap sides I  game. Surely there must have been some agreement between Howe and him or he threw his toys out the pram and said he didn't want to play there. Something had to have changed. But I maintain I think Barnes left and him right would be more fruitful than the other way round, especially if Murphy wasn't on the right.

Anyways. Hopefully comes back refreshed next season because when he's good he's very good. Just go back and watch some of the earlier season highlights and it's easy to drop that recency bias and remember there is a good player there.
