Newcastle Fan Posted yesterday at 14:18 Share Posted yesterday at 14:18 The Kid is 19 and was thrown into a very odd game where most of the senior players were off, i don't think he looked too bad and we've already seen enough of him to show that he can be relied on to start. JonBez comesock Posted yesterday at 14:23 Share Posted yesterday at 14:23 (edited) Jamie Mclens performance was better anything Miley has ever produced v Arsenal 0-0 Many moons ago ….! Matty Longstaff V Man United looked great too Miley reminds me of both I played with Jamie everyday in training and he was a good player but not good enough for the first team Miley will end up in the championship but might get a premier league move beforehand(do ok) before being benched ….and will drift down to championship Most premier league teams have similar youth players that will drift in , then drift out and have lots of ability (but not that X factor) Edited yesterday at 14:24 by JonBez comesock
Elliottman Posted yesterday at 14:43 Share Posted yesterday at 14:43 1 hour ago, Ben said: 100% disagree with all of that, i thought he looked class on and off the ball Can’t believe some of the comments I’m reading in here mind 😅 The kids played hardly any football this season but come in today was very neat and tidy, never gives the ball away, absolutely clattered one of their lot , pressed really well at another stopping them from getting out and from the sounds of it slipped Barnes in for the chance he balls up. He was on about 25-30 minutes right? Some people man… Eddie has repeatedly said this kid has the World at his feet, he knows better than any numpty on here giving him a hard time. TheBrownBottle Posted yesterday at 14:47 Share Posted yesterday at 14:47 I can’t agree with the comments giving him high praise nor criticism tbh. Looked ok, nothing of note, game passed him by a wee bit, but there were little hints of the lad’s talent from time to time
TRon Posted yesterday at 16:08 Share Posted yesterday at 16:08 2 hours ago, The College Dropout said: We are in desperate need of a new CM. Maybe 2. For me - Miley’s a long way off it atm. He’s got great size and technique but he needs the rest of the game to mature. Particularly off the ball he’s a non factor. He needs to snap into closing down and meaningfully try to nick it. Joelinton’s obviously the master of that - Bruno and Tonali are elite at it too. Willock isn’t as intense but he also is great at the odd interception. Longstaff good at it too. Anderson has been great at it for Forst this season. Miley gives his man a fraction too long on the ball. Maybe he can get to the level via training. Yep. this game was a bit too much for him, he didn't play much of a role in keeping Chelsea at bay when they were pushing up in the second half. Lovely player when he gets time, but today wasn't that sort of game.

Lotus
He was totally uninvolved for ages after coming on. He just doesn’t get minutes here let alone starts. Looked like bags of potential when he first came through but now just looks off the pace all the time. Lots of people keep saying loan moves are a rubbish idea and he’ll just get better and better by training with us and barely playing. Don’t think there’s much that can compare to actual game time tbh. We’re not a team that likes rotation (non injury related) so I’m not sure how much he’ll play next season if get another CM in. Guess the club will make up their mind about that but I think getting around 30 starts at some club (could be us….) will quickly improve him and give everyone a better idea what his trajectory might be. Mazzy
He wasn't involved much in the 10 or so minutes after coming on but then he started to get into the game a bit more and did so well in the end. We barely had the ball in that second half so it's hard to judge him on today really.

Menace
Howe literally sees him in training every day and has said he has the world in his hands - yet some on here are writing him off. AdoptedGeordieFromPompey
Some of the comments in this thread blow my mind. We are talking about a teenager who was thrust into the first team at 17 last season and held his own. He's had a serious injury that curtailed his summer conditioning and he therefore had no pre-season. Despite missing out on that time, you can see he's had a growth spurt and looks to be filling out nicely. He has a good touch, very good eye for a pass and has shown composure when presented with chances in front of goal. He looks more of an 8 than a 6 but he's still finding his feet. I've spent this season watching Freddie Potts week in, week out and West Ham seem to think he's got a real chance to be a regular for them in a year or two. He's 21 and I'm telling you now, Lewis Miley is already twice the player he is. A loan to the Championship where very few teams play a front foot aggressive style like Newcastle might be good for him to get his legs as it were but it won't really help with his development. If he's going to play 20-25 games at Toon next year, he's far better hanging around and being part of the squad as the 4th or 5th choice midfielder. If a loan was the best option, loan him to a top European club outside of the big big boys. He'd probably be a starter week in, week out at a top Dutch or Portuguese club or even second tier Serie A, La Liga or Bundesliga. He'd learn far more there than playing for Leicester or whoever for a season. Kid has a real chance to be a EPL regular and play for his country. I think his floor is solid EPL player but his ceiling is top top drawer. Just because he's not the best player in the world today at 19 (and only just turned 19) doesn't mean he's missed the boat. He would probably be starting for Spurs or MU at the moment and that shows not only his potential but also where he is right now in his development and just how good Joelinton, Tonali and Bruno are in keeping him out of the first XI. I honestly don't know what to say at times... What do you want a football forum to be? Just parroting what the manager says? Howe is never going to criticise a player and will always praise them and rightfully so. We can have our own opinions. Personally, to me it looks like Miley is lacking a bit of confidence. He hides a bit and especially when he first came on, was just always in a position where he was never going to receive it. He clearly has a chance of being a class player for us in the future though. Optimistic Nut
Same view as last week for me. Send him to a top Championship team, let him get 40 starts under his belt and get used to being one of the best players on the pitch. When he comes back, look to push for a role in the team. Get a loan/free to cover as 4-5th choice CM while he's away.
Ellis H
Loads essentially wrote off Anderson who very quickly became a key player in a team chasing champions league football. He was older and had almost certainly shown less for us. Like Anderson, Miley needs games and lots of them.
Lotus
Btw, if the plan is to give Miley 20-25 starts next year I’d definitely think he should stay. If he’s going to make 20-25 appearances from the bench for a few minutes here and there I’d think he’d be better off going on loan. Anyway, we’ll see when we see. Hope for the starts obvs.

Wharton has 31 PL starts with 2500 minutes played, plus another 800 minutes in domestic cups. He also had two Championship seasons at Miley's age accounting for another 3,000 minutes played. Miley has half as many PL starts with 1500 minutes and also around 800 cup minutes (including CL). We're probably 12-18 months away from being able to make a fair comparison to current Wharton and he'll still be younger than Wharton is now.
r0cafella
In an ideal world he'd definitely be loaned out but sadly we don't live in that world. longy looks to be done, and Willock should probably be moved on, if we do that and let Miley go out on loan we would need 3 central midfielders which I just don't see happening. Benwell Lad
I wonder how many times Eddie Howe, the guy working with Miley and his development day on day, has to say he's not going anywhere before it sinks in. Of course he's behind the BTJ trilogy, so are most PL midfielders not just this 18 year old. He's arguably next in line. Yes, he's not yet freely showing what he can do in the last third in his limited game time, but he comes on with clear instructions and carries them out very competently. Yesterday the game was turning against us and they were breaking at will and dominating the game. He was brought on as an extra midfield body to try and break them up and that's what he did. As a reminder of what he can do in the final third, even in his limited domestic game time, he has come up with three crucial goals, all at key moments in games, not the injury time 5th goal in a 5-0 win. He can pick out the killer pass when it's on, clearest example yet being the one he set up for Izak last season. He was pretty competent against PSG and Dortmund as well in big pressure games. His time is coming and apart from the fact that he's developing quite nicely in our squad, the anticipated number of games next season means he will stay here. Sempiternal
He’s a 10/AM and played there when he was an academy player. It’s unfortunate as we don’t use one, and his off the ball work is not really there to play the way we do.
