Why couldn't this area be used to house away fans? I remember Arsenal taking that section when they had a bigger allocation in the 00's for an FA cup game.

I'd actually make that area safe standing...

you're persistent, I'll give you that

Ha, in fairness when the club announced safe standing i actually thought that area would of been perfect given it is the biggest corner.

In terms of pre match music was up until mid 2000s or later they used to play New Radicals "you get what you give".

Heard it today... always seemed to be associated with them wembley runs in late 90s..

It does seem the in thing at the moment for the crowd to sing along to something pre match. Was watching a video the other day of Coventry singing ‘we live and die in these towns’, was a bit cringey and seems forced in my opinion.

If we had a larger standing area I’d be all for just knocking the sound off 5 mins before kick off and letting atmosphere just build. A rousing reading of the team sheet by a new DJ accompanied by roars after each player name would get place going much better.

The only natural sounding sing alongs which I think work are the folk songs at Celtic and Rangers.

We could hijack a Sam Fender song before kick off and have a sing along, but for me these things should be organic and stem from something actually being sang by the fans, such as Ajax and Bob Marley’s 3 little birds.

Coming Home Newcastle by Busker would be the choice for me, but again it’s not organic as fans don’t naturally sing it, or one of the Lindisfarne classics would work but our ageing fan base just don’t seem interested in creating an atmosphere unfortunately.

Lots of good points in there.

If it was me, I'd have something playing alongside the team being announced (the 90s basketball fan in me says Sirius but an instrumental version of Thunderstruck would obviously work), loud enough to hear but not the usual ear-splitting level, the crowd give the usual cheer after each name, don't tell me to fucking enjoy the game, cut the music and let the crowd have at it.

The key thing though - LET PEOPLE KNOW THE PLAN.

If we just randomly cut the music you'd probably just get a confused hum but if a clear message was put out, "we'll do our bit, but the 5min before KO is up to you" it could work. We've seen before with the Wor Flags stuff, the scarves etc that the message does get through.

I much prefer an organic almost discordant racket rather than a specific routine. A wall of noise for the players rather than a choral performance.

Mind you we can't win at times... Fans getting stick on twitter for singing 3-1 down and staying to end...was there yesterday and still rather that than toxic atmosphere...

stick from fans who probably never bother their arse going to a game all season. I wouldn't worry about them!

Sounds like a proper away end then! Seen far more shite and less likeable players and managers than the current lot and still had a good sing song til full time.

These twitter morons expect you to stand there and abuse them when they come over at the end.....cant win cos they'd be crying if they pissed off straight down the tunnel.

Brilliant need more fans like Joe.

Remember drinking around the Port last time and from personal experience the French Police were worse at the stadium.

Caged in at the ground for ages if I remember correctly. We stayed down at the port. Great atmosphere in the afternoon pre-match at the port, bother later on after the match although I think it may have been Marseilles fans and police.

The Port was great and sure a lot of our lads will head there again despite the scare mongering. Clearly like a lot of these places folk need to watch their back and not be wandering around pissed singing late at night, but I’d wager a bet any major issues will be with the French Police.

Police were right twats after the game. We were staying in Cannes and just got bussed in and out for the match so never had a pint in Marseille. Remember having to walk through a sort of warehouse to get in and out the ground.

Yes I remember that warehouse. I seem to remember the Marseilles fans starting a fire in their end to our right during the game as well

Aye they did. Was almost right in front of us as we were penned into that corner but behind the goal line. Sure the fire brigade ended up having to put it out. They were mental like. Best atmosphere I think I've experienced.
