Sat in 3 different seats last night. First seat was in the Leazes End. Lasted 10 mins before I had to shift because the bloke to my right was the most miserable, negative, whinging twat I've come across at the match in years and i was aboutto say something but didn't want to get the lad who's ticket I was using into any bother. I spotted a few empty seats in the Milburn Paddock so headed for there instead. That was just as bad. Actually worse. Bloke sat next to me with his son never looked up from his phone and even complained when someone nearly knocked it out his hands as they walked past.

So far my atmosphere rating would be 2/10.

At HT I walked all the way around to the Gallowgate to meet a mate of mine who stands in the Strawberry Corner. Unsurprisingly that was the best of my 3 seats for atmosphere and I'd give that a 7/10. They try but it was clear last night that the rest of the Gallowgate rarely join in and I noticed that from my other 2 seats I couldn't really hear them.

Overall pretty dismal atmosphere wise. 3/10. I don't think there's any real desire from either party, club or fans, to improve things so it is what it is I suppose.

There was ticketing seminar tonight, wonder if it will come up by any fans..

Yeah I was there. I brought up the fact that someone I know of was able to wander around the ground, sitting in 3 different seats on a fraudulent ticket.

Said they'll get back to me

Probably the true feyth lot talking about how away games are a closed shop again, causing further ridiculous changes

I was in the leazes end last might with my brother, first time in a while.

The atmosphere was the flattest I have Heard at an important game like that.

Seemed like everyone was scared to sing or shout or anything, really dissapointing!

Lot of old folk around and not many youngins probably doesn't help

I’ve sat in every part of stadium apart from Milburn L7 over the last few seasons and what you’ve just described is a perfect summary of the vast majority of the ground

I find Milburn L7 to be better than most areas for that type of nonsense (balcony at least). People are invested in the game and will join in with chants if there's someone making a bit of noise.

I much prefer being in the corner compared to anywhere else. Standing and watching football is just an miles better way of consuming the game than sitting. I hate sitting at SJP really.

I do think if you'd picked up the corner and plonked it next to the away fans it would be better. Would give people something to compete against so to speak. Even better yet, create some more safe standing there and try and get things going elsewhere.

Hoy the away fans where this smoggy said.

Would need to go further round to the east stand for the full allocation like. Hoy the 100 year old east standers in level 7 (they'll refuse) Sell their tickets to 16-21 year olds in the old away end in level 7 which is a ready made standing section

Sorted

That section’s not big enough to put the away end.

Thats why I said extend it into the east stand and kick the oaps into level 7 who will then in turn give it up. Then sell the tickets to 16-21 year olds in the standing section up there

Putting to one-side the OAP-culling, the safety nonce people wouldn’t let the away end be down there due to entrance and exit protocols.

Aye.

Nowhere realistically to put away fans in the lower bowl. With the east side of the ground out of bounds.

Why do we want to displace more home fans to sit in the abomination that is Level 7?

Got no problem in a new stadium giving away fans seats in the lower bowl, however I would say the majority of our fanbase would rather be In the lower bowl of SJP and feel more part of it.

That would be a requirement under PL rules to have them pitch side, they only get away with it now due to police etc wanting an easier job.

Think the novelty of being in the CL has worn off, was always going to eventually. Mix in the lack of real jeopardy with the new format and it being a game we’re favourites to win and it was always going to be a bit flat imo.

I see that switching Local Hero and Blaydon Races around did absolutely fuck all either for the atmosphere or the speed in which it is sung.

Fans deserve bugger all if that's the case. It's hardly a given that we're going to regularly be in this when there's 5 spots 7-8 clubs annually.

The away section should be a thin vertical strip all of the way up the East stand side of the Leazes imo.

Club have snookered themselves putting hospitality all of the way along the goal line under L7 though.
