Are there any fans that actually prefer Hey Jude to Local Hero as a walk out song?

Hey Jude used to be absolutely class when it was sang organically from the stands. Playing it before kick off is pure Brentford shite, it needs binned as soon as possible. Reminds me of that little period under Allardyce when we used to play Sham 69 in place of Local Hero - it just doesn't work.

Bring back the 00s pre-match playlist I say, though this daft Premier League music doesn't help things (nor does the new CL music shite as the teams are walking out).

True but there were people saying it was their first away derby - how ffs??

The away support changed at the point ID checks came  in and as previously mentioned, the lesser spotted season ticket holders who never bothered going started fancying an away trip.

No.

dont want it played at all. was fine when it first started but its sung at a lot of clubs now.

would rather sing "seventeen going under" than Hey Jude.

do love a post match rendition of Primal Scream, though.

Even look at the season Howe came in, the away end at Elland Road was literally rocking. We came out the ground and few Leeds lads even said you lot were relentless given how bad the team has been.

Remember some of the championship away days too, we Newcastle and we're gonna win the league on repeat...great days.

Thats the difference between supporting and spectating.

Aye like you say whingeing about being kettled through there is embarrassing. Was thinking back to some of my previous visits through there and i thought the policing was light in comparison on the walk.

Small percentage ballot wins. Slightly bigger corporate & staff allocation. Then finally ST Away Transfer (2 allowed per season per ST holder).

One positive from Sunday - we found about £17 in £1s and 50 ps outside the ground at FT presumably from mackems chucking coins at us in the escort- this was without really looking either... From the hyprocrite clowns who were calling Coventry they've a few object hoyers of their own.

Shows how much they hate us when they're chucking 95% of their net worth at us.

They're massive hypocrites mind. Cried like bitches for years because those nasty away fans were chucking coins at them from above, resulting in away fans being banned from taking coins in with them yet their number one method of attack is to throw coins at the away fans [emoji38]

So annoyed that those cowards representing us on Sunday couldn't put them in their place. And I'm talking on and off the pitch here.

This is probably rose tinted nostalgia but the best away days for me were the Ashley years. Had some cracking trips in both stints in the Championship.

Them days alongside the L7 corner were absolutely class, though I was personally in my prime session days which probably has a bearing. The result was definitely secondary in those days, but I suppose that's part of the package when you become good.

Doesn't mean we should accept shite on or off the pitch because we're now decent and used to be crap though. Performances on the pitch and in the stands haven't been good enough all season, save for the odd occasion.

It’s a complaint as old as time.  The atmosphere this century has been shit as far as I can tell - the ‘90s were too.  Folks tend to remember the best atmospheres they’ve experienced and they wonder why they’re not hearing it at a run of the mill league match.  Christ, I heard ‘sit doon’ so often in the ‘90s once SJP was all seater that it should have been a chant of its own.  Away game atmospheres are always better, fuelled by beer (and other stuff) and the fact that you’re on a jolly.

SJP always had spectators - the west and east stands (upper sections) were always this way.  It’s where the old men sat down.  All-seaters (meaning groups of mates can’t stand together) and the cost of tickets (meaning loads of mates can’t even afford it) changed forever the atmosphere in grounds.

I'm pretty sure you're in a very small minority on that.

Most likely, though I wasn’t when Alan Robson and Barry in the Box started playing it - which is why it was stopped for a while in the ‘90s.  People are used to hearing it now, drowning out any ability to get an atmosphere going before kick off

Local Hero was played before matches in the 92/93 season and up until the Grimsby game which became all ticket due to 7,000 being locked out v Tranmere all the standing areas were packed and hour before KO and there was no issue with Pre match atmosphere regardless of what was coming over the PA system.

We had season tickets in the family enclosure then and we'd park up at the Dental Hospital around 2pm. As soon as we opened the car doors you could the fans singing inside the ground.

You can play what you like or don't play anything at all. It isn't going to make any sort of difference to what the atmosphere is like during the match. I'm not even sure why it's a topic. It never used to be.

Spot on, I don't get why people get so hung up on it, main issue is fact that their is like minder fans together...

I don’t think Local Hero is much of an issue beyond being shite.

The atmosphere today doesn’t sound any better or worse than it has in decades

Would disagree with that. It's far worse nowadays. It has to be. It's a different type of fan who goes nowadays. An older, far more reserved type. It's a far more diluted experience than it used to be when I first started going in the 80s.

I made a point the other week that even that roar that builds when we're attacking has even started to disappear. That's probably the most noticeable thing for me. The crowd don't give the players anywhere near the encouragement they used to. By the same tone we don't put anywhere near as much pressure on referees as we used to either. All of that contributes to atmosphere. It's not just about singing songs.

That was embarrassing- first half especially - quarter final of the cup ffs. I don’t know what the answer is but I actually feel so low despite the win. I can accept spectators (we’ve always had them) but people booing at HT in the fkin gallowgate and whinging at attacks stalling when we’re level .

I give up . Cunts the lot of them

First time in the corner tonight and I absolutely loved being there and it's easily the best way to experience a match - standing up and bellowing away until I've got a headache. Wasn't blown away by the atmosphere but at least the vibe seemed positive, if quiet at times. Very little whinging, until Elanga had the temerity to play a backwards pass.

I know he gets plenty of it around these parts but I need to kiss @Heron's arse again. The effort with the flags and then the effort to sing and sing and sing and sing. Fair fucking fucks, man. You were in my eyeline to my right and I did my best to match you until I started to feel unwell.

Grounds don’t have to be all seater anymore and other clubs have installed huge amounts of safe standing, which at least gives an opportunity to get like minded people together and let them stand and sing. So theoretically it should be better than it’s been since the 90’s.

Look at L7 Singing Section back in the day and The Corner now, both were the best areas for atmosphere in the ground by miles, in the current version of SJP. If we’re given an opportunity to deliver as fans, we have done.

But NUFC don’t want to do anything to try and allow us to improve the atmosphere, for whatever reason that is.
