Ultimately we're still a stepping stone club just the quality of players using us to step up are generally a higher calibre to the Sissoko, Cabaye era

True. Aside from a very select group of clubs across Europe, every club is a stepping stone for someone.

The only way the rest of us can be competitive is to buy well, sell well and replace with better.

We are only in the infancy of our quest to become a top club, it's perplexing to me that people think we will fend off the elite clubs just because we have what is essentially an imaginary stockpile of money behind us.

Interesting break down.

He brings up that he is a hybrid of a 6 and an 8 and so is not elite at either.

Also mentions that he's not sure moving him to the 6 has made Newcastle better as it has affected build up play and protection of the defence.

Pretty much what I see with him in that position really. Just doesn't work that well.

Is a really good analysis of him

Yeah it is.

I think the best bet is for him to be in a system where he is used as an 8, and where he is encouraged to carry the ball more often and shoot more often, as the video points out that he doesn't really do enough of that despite having the capability and being quite effective at both things.

Completely out of position on their winner after running past the goal scorer Truffert with his hands behind his back even though the man crossing the ball was nowhere near him and was being covered by Thiaw.

Some of the strangest defending you'll see. Just not disciplined or aware enough to cover the back four.

Tonali grafted and was one of the few attempting to close down opposition players, he didn't play well but there was effort

No use if it's being done without any thought behind it.

Just before that sequence where they scored, he had gone flying up the pitch to close down their goalkeeper for God knows what reason.

I suspect he was somewhat tired sprinting all of the way back which likely contributed to him losing his bearings and putting a lazy leg out when he finally realises Truffert is free in the box.

It's just not good enough.

Thought he was decent today, he busted a gut running around the pitch trying to put out fires, but there was no one near him to back him up. Gods, I miss the days when we used hunt down the ball in packs!

I'd drop him along with Gordon and Tino the rest of the way tbh. Don't know if all the transfer speculation is getting to these guys or what.

The team we finished with is what we should be looking to start with the next few games. Miley and Bruno in midfield with Woltemade playing off Osula.

God knows what we do on the wings. Maybe try Barnes back on the right again, with Ramsey on the left where he also played at Villa? Maybe Ramsey and Willock out wide? No idea.

Eddie made him Captain yesterday so would assume Eddie thinks he's still committed.

This. Felt frustrated for him for this. Seemed to be a lone ranger.

Good analysis.

A midfield that includes both Tonali and Bruno is crying out for a proper holding midfielder. Someone to snuff out attacks and pick up the ball from the backline. Allows Tonali to move box-to-box, allows Bruno to make plays.

Incredibly enough, we haven't had a player capable of properly playing that position throughout Howe's tenure [emoji38]

It drives me crazy [emoji38]

He's a bit of a headless chicken at times, he just goes chasing the ball and leaves the midfield exposed often.  It's no wonder why we have big gaps in midfield.

We do need his legs though.

We won't as long as Howe is in charge imo.

It seems we did, and we sold him to Forest

It’s his agent that’s driving this though, it’s not just randoms on Twitter making up rumours. His comments don’t make sense to me. He’s a goner.

Thought he ran his bollocks off today. Lacked quality on the ball, especially from set pieces which has been the main criticism of him this season. But again I don't think anyone can fault his effort and those lung busting sprints he has to do multiple times per game to stop likely certain goals on the counter.

We will miss him when he's gone.
