But again in what sense does European football matter then? Is it only Spurs? Im not even sure about that. These are the clubs we are trying to compete with, not Everton/Leeds. In the big picture European football doesnt matter much to us against a lot of clubs.

Will have to disagree with you on this one pal. I think playing in the Champions League is a massive pull when trying to attract players, and always has been.

Wasn’t impressed.  Didn’t look tremendously mobile.

Tonali is tremendously mobile, so if Camara isn't, that would be a big loss for the side.

Same. I’ve always thought he didn’t at all look like someone with the mobility we need during the few times I watched Monaco - but we seem to be tracking him as the guy right now

Difficult to judge from one game

Ditto. Started well but got caught out on multiple occasions and looked like he was wearing skates at various points. Playing v a stellar French team but looked passive and let it pass him by.

But if Camara is better technically on the ball and can thread through balls he would be a big gain.

I think the club have 2 or 3 alternatives to Camara that they are looking at for example Sangare from Lens or Caleb Yirenkyi who maybe cheaper options.

We got the evidence last season, easy as that. Of course a player could be interested if we had CL, like Wissa, but its not a "pull" for us (in my opinion). It will only become a pull when we are there year out year in.

I don't think we could have signed Tonali from Milan in the first place if we hadn't been in the CL.

Probably true, but we also signed Bruno & Trippier without CL so who knows. The project had a different feel back then.

He was part of a midfield that was getting run over by loads of mid-table teams last season. He ain’t that good and he’s utterly replaceable.

He also did a lot of recovery job for us at times. The midfield without his running ability is worrying.

I’d really like to see a midfield which is capable of passing a football next season - I think Miley and Bruno will offer that; Tonali, Joelinton and Willock are poor on the ball.

Agree, but Bruno/Miley will he chasing shadows.

I don’t agree with that.  He usually plays that way. He also gives the ball away loads and doesn’t offer much in the final third.  He never hides.  But he plays with leadership and authority in a way that few in our team do.

You don't think his performances have dipped this season?

Happy to trust our scouts to find either a holding midfielder or a water carrier who can do that, while using the additional funds to strengthen elsewhere too.

I'll be sad when he leaves. Feel like their was untapped potential still lurking within Tonali with his shooting etc but also his defensive contribution is often vastly underappreciated.

I know we had a bad season with Gordon and Tonali in the team, but the general downward trajectory we appear to be on now with selling 3 of our best players and possibly more to come (Hall, Tino?) is saddening.

Sure it's good to at least get good fee's for Isak, Gordon, Tonali. But having proven players already is far better than unknowns of new players or money in the bank as last summer proved.

With him at the heart and centre of the midfield, we couldn't keep the ball or play through midfield consistently, and like you said, kept getting run through defensively in there too. It looked infinitely worse when Bruno got injured and you'd think he'd step up.

We were mathematically safe from relegation with just a few games of the season left, we were that bad all season. This is the guy we're supposed to be worried about replacing.

I think we can add Ramsey to the list of players who will offer that. He’ll be a big plus next season imo.

Agreed. Still feel we need a top drawer DM to do the dirty work for Ramsey and Bruno if he’s to play further up though.

Haven’t seen much of Camara. Wasn’t impressed tonight.

Nor me, but I’m happy to leave them to it to be honest. If they fancy him as an option, let’s be having him.

Yep, it would be good to see Ramsay really kick-on, especially if a midfield slot has opened up for the taking

Aye, though again that’s replaceable. He offered zero control as a contrast.

Regarding Camara, I think it's important to remember that international football is a mismatch of wildly different levels of quality and well teams in general.

That's part of the charm sometimes, but I wouldn't react to performances you see from anyone there too positive or negatively.

History is full of complete flops from people who performed at WCs in years past. If they're following him I assume they've done their homework.
