NUFC Transfer Rumours

Recommended Posts

Nah absolutely fuck selling Miggy. Love the guy - he's not world class, we all know that, but he works his absolute socks off every game and is a big part of the way we play and the why we had such a great season.

Honestly against selling any of the lads who played a significant part in getting us here. They deserve a season in the CL for their efforts - even as bench options they'll all get plenty of minutes.

Probably not the most ruthless and sensible approach, but they deserve it.

If they want to go, sure, but we shouldn’t be forcing anyone out.

Would demolish the feel-good atmosphere Howe has instilled. “Thanks for all your work lads, but onwards and upwards, see you in 20 years at a talk-in hosted by Steve Wraith”

it’s called progress though. Football is ruthless and you can’t stand still. If there is a chance to upgrade you take it (unless you are Mike Ashley). You cant have sentiment in football unfortunately.

This. And also the game in the CL is much much different than that of the PL so I think some of our players, especially the more fringe type ones like Miggy or ASM, will actually shine quite a bit in the group stages especially.

You can upgrade and progress without sending the message that there’s little point trying as you may not get to enjoy any of the success.

Based on what?

If we want to compete for trophies and CL spots then some hard decisions will have to be made. We can't carry the likes of Almiron, Murphy, Burn etc forever just because they did well last season. IMO.

Exactly. Not to mention that we have a tiny squad. We know these players can do a job and contribute heavily, no guarantee for whoever we bring in to take their place on the bench

Carry forever? No, when we’re competing for the title they likely will have moved on. First season in the CL that they played a huge part in dragging us to? It wouldn’t be carrying them, they’d have a part to play.

I wouldn't be against selling Miggy if it helps us improve in other areas. Assuming we sign a Maddison/Szobo type we'd still have them, Murphy, Gordon, Maxi, Joelinton as options for 2 wide positions which is more than enough, if you think we'll move to a 4231 throw Willock in to that group too

That’s how it works though. Players know they can move on at anytime and nothing is guaranteed. If an offer comes in for a player where the club think it will benefit them to improve they will do it. Football is ruthless like that.

Always remember when Keegan first took us up. David Kelly scored 28 goals that season and was phenomenal, yet we sold him that summer. Always felt gutted for him not getting a chance with us in the top division, but that’s just how football is.

That’s before my time so can’t comment. I don’t wholly disagree, there is a need for a certain level of ruthlessness at the top level. I just don’t think it’s needed in this window at this point in our development. We have the ability to progress while retaining the group that got us this far - and I strongly feel that we need every one that we know can contribute given our lack of depth.

I'd rather sell Miggy to Saudi than Willock to Liverpool or Tottenham. We're now at the big table, with few possible buyers for our players who'll bring proper money in. Our options are really quite limited.

Captain Hindsight perhaps, but we missed a trick last season in not letting Eliot Anderson play a season in the Champo and lift his value to 20M+. Kuol etc. have been bought with one eye on selling them on for higher prices if they don't quite make our level. Its part of what Man City, Chelsea, and Liverpool all do.

The logic for the above in summer 2023 of course is for us to sell purely for FFP wiggle room to buy a purple LB, RCB, or whatever Eddie wants. We wouldn't just sell because we have stingy owners with a limited kitty. There's a kitty but the establishment (FFP) won't let us use it.

Miggy is unambiguously in our top three wide forward options, and is pretty much a perfect fit for our style of play, racking up the most g/a from out wide by some distance last season. That is reason enough to believe he will have an important role to play this year, sentimentality need not factor in.

So you want transfers of good players coming in but don't wanna sacrifice miggy because he deserves a chance in champions league? He's one of our only saleable assets that commands a good price plus he's pushing 30.

Plus it was a purple patch last year. There's a higher ceiling with maxi.

The thought of Szoboszlai with Bruno and Tonali…. 3 players with fantastic ability to make key passes  and everything else on top of that. Good physicality combined with technical ability and the right mentality and leadership. Hope we get him too.

You heard of this thing called a squad? He’s also currently our starting right forward. We do need to move players out, but those that do move at this point in time are going to be a lot lower down the rungs of squad importance. Our current predicament ffp wise, is going to be solved by growing commercial revenue IMO, not selling players from our current first 11.
