On MGW i think he’s a very good player but not sure how he fits into our system, it would feel a system change is needed to get the best out of him.

For the fee he would command id want to pass personally.

it’s all speculation mind, easy clicks and all that.

Joelinton replacement if he doesn't renew? Most advanced of a central three with Bruno and Tonali.

Can't afford £30m for ederson but all that's stopping us paying more than that is forest being reluctant. Great journalism again

He’s not a natural 8 is he? And we have little Joe.

I think MGW isn’t too similar to big Joe, I don’t see him as someone winning so many duels.

Maybe, but I'd like to think we could make a midfield of Bruno, Tonali and Gibbs-White into a bit of a unit. We'd still have the likes of Willock, Longstaff, Anderson, Miley behind that.

£23-5m difference if my maths right. 5yrs x£200kpw Vs 5yrs x£100kpw. Give or take a few KPW.

You were going to pay him £200Kpw? Presume that would have made him your highest earner, would be more than anybody at Spurs is rumoured to be on as well.

Highly unlikely, there more than any of our players are on.

Nothing new, but snippets from the Athletic Mailbag:

"Joelinton’s absence has shifted the focus from a No 6 to a No 8. What Eddie Howe desires is a powerful box-to-box midfielder who can win duels and offer physicality in the middle, just as Joelinton does."

"Ideally, Howe also wants another attacker and a goalkeeper, but there is an increasing recognition that, given their PSR constraints, Newcastle cannot conclude all the business they would like to. That could change should an offer Newcastle simply cannot refuse arrive for a player in another position."

"Relationships between senior executives and senior players are very tight and Newcastle ideally want Trippier to be with them for another two or three years."

"Almiron falls into a slightly different category than Trippier and Wilson. Because their resources are so stretched up front, Newcastle couldn’t countenance selling a striker without bringing in a replacement, which would be incredibly difficult this month. Trippier’s leadership and worth to the squad is also vital."

"Those who have worked with Howe are adamant that he does not prefer British players, as is often levelled at him."

"Newcastle have no intention whatsoever of selling Isak. Unlike Guimaraes, the noises around the £60m club-record signing are far more definitive: Howe, nor the hierarchy, want to lose the Sweden international, now or in the summer. Instead, the plan is to build the team around the 24-year-old for seasons to come."

"The expectation is that there will be a significant overhaul this summer, yes. At least one key player is likely to leave, but then funds will be reinvested into the squad, and there will be greater PSR headroom to do so.

With six deals set to expire — most of Loris Karius, Mark Gillespie, Matt Ritchie, Paul Dummett, Emil Krafth and Jamaal Lascelles are likely to leave — then fringe players can potentially be upgraded as well."

"...any future incoming or outgoing transfers involving Saudi Pro League clubs and Newcastle would also have to be approved."

It also says they're still negotiating with Joelinton, but whoever we buy might have to be his long term replacement.

Can see the Onana links getting stronger, he'd be perfect in that role. He's a bit raw, but he's got a lot of potential.

Not keen on Onana at all, big joe is much better imo. EPL tax is to real, this summer has shown we can’t afford to pay 60m per player

However, should Guimaraes, Joelinton’s best friend, depart this summer as expected, and there is no agreement on a new deal...

Seems our summer plan will be to sell Bruno for a substantial amount then reinvest.

Yeah I was about to say. Would feel like a massive downgrade actually. Big Joe is massive for us when fit and healthy and pops up occasionally with some important goals. It's just a shame his finishing is so erratic because sometimes his touch can be sublime. (Spurs last season)

As much as it will hurt, selling Bruno will hurt, I imagine it will facilitate a pretty substantial rebuild. When other sides have brought in 100m for a player (West Ham, Villa etc) they have then reinvested that same money. We have owners who will also be adding the absolute maximum they're allowed to on top of that 100m to the transfer/wage budget.

It won’t be the same because we still have a substantial amount of his fee that needs to be wiped out. But aye it will help massively.

Was trying to work this out myself as well. Around 44m wasn't it after add ons? WIll have been here 2 and half years by the Summer. Maybe around 20m left?

We also have Tonali coming back in, who should soften the blow a bit. But yeah, it’ll be up there with the hardest ones we’ve had to take
