NUFC Transfer Rumours

I can’t see Bowen happening, with regards to the other names linked, I’d be tempted to keep Miggy and Murphy instead of shelling out big money on them tbh.

Wouldn’t go that far the right side absolutely needs freshening up. Miggy has to go

Absolutely it does, just the names linked (other than Bowen), won’t be worth the money we would have to pay imo.

Still think it’ll be MGW.

Also doesn't make sense to me.

Not a RW. Right footed. Already in the PL. 3 years left on the contract. Almost at peak value.

I don't understand these links to him and Bowen, can only assume it's largely made up/based on light interest.

Bowen doesn't make sense either age or price but he would be excellent for a good 2/3 seasons minimum. Then he could sort of blend into a superior Matt Ritchie squad type guy.

Yeah this - there has to be something in Anderson going the other way surely?

I’d happily take Soule and Mbuemo tbh

Bowen would be amazing for us and anything under 60-odd million would be good value as well for what he’d bring to the team.

This is a make-or-break season for us; we really do need to challenge for a top 4 place or risk losing our key players to rivals, widening the gap. We need results quickly and Bowen is as close to guaranteed class as we can get in our current position. He’ll be under a lot more pressure to achieve this season, so if Howe thinks Bowen is the key to CL places then we should go for it.

Bowen's class, a cut above everyone else that's been linked in that position but his age and the price he would cost makes it sound very unlikely.

Madueke has the potential to go up a few levels if he can get a consistent run in a team.

His injury record isn’t great by all accounts, makes getting a run in the side all the more difficult.

We aren’t at a stage where we can purchase players over the age of 26 for high fees. His value will depreciate every year, which isn’t good for our PSR. We need players whose value rises through the contract.

Why would West Ham sell him for £60m?

The Bowen link just tells me the press have no idea who our real RW targets are.

Add to that we are in the final phase of the Euros with only a few games left so reporters are left scratching around for rumours to push.

Just playing Devil's advocate on the arguments about Bowen and PSR etc

There is a certain advantage in bringing in a player you are sure (or as sure as you can be) will hit the ground running and be productive in the PL. You could save £30m or so on a talent from overseas but if they take 6-12 months to settle (or don't settle at all) and you end up missing out on CL football then that £30m saved ends up being £30m (or more) lost in revenue.

Because in 2 years he’ll be worth half that? Not saying they necessarily will but they’re reeling from not being able to get a 100m fee for Paqueta.

For (let’s say for arguments sake) 65m we get a guaranteed high-performing PL player that pushes  us up the league and they can spend half that on some highly rated 22 year old punt from abroad. Everyone’s a winner?

Absolutely your point is definitely true, but the flip side is your paying a premium in both fees and wages for a player who won’t improve and will only de-value.

To make the transfer worth it your relying on multiplier effects which might have also been achieved by signing someone who is slightly worst but doesn’t have the above negatives plus your protecting yourself on the downside.
