NUFC Transfer Rumours

If one of the first moves of the Mitchell era -- one meant to usher in better global scouting in search of the next crop of elite talents -- is signing DCL on a 'free' with huge wages then it will easily be the most disappointed I've been since the takeover.

We'll only sign him because Howe really wants him, and on a free Mitchell might think it's not bad value.

As would DCL to be fair.

He’s only 27 isn’t he?

He’s 28 in March. He’d need to play at least a year with us to accrue value in this dream world, so you’d be talking about trying to sell a 29-30 year old on high wages. He’s not a player you sign with any plans of future value.

DCL injury record is poor and he'll want big wages and he has barely any resale value. Plus his goalscoring record is average at best

I'd rather take a punt on someone young in the Championship

Injury record over played, resale is there (Wilson had value at 31 after 2 season output, no reason DCL can’t be similar) and he’s goal scoring is for a proper woeful non attacking Everton team.

The punts in Championship for strikers isn’t there this season.

Totally understandable, but think back....how many of us were disappointed when we got Bellamy after missing Jeffers. No one rated Bellamy, but he (along with Robert)was transformative as he brought an element to the team we didn't have, and few realised he would bring given there was little evidence of it in his previous seasons.

Perhaps EH/PM see something DCL would add when playing with our lot.

Just a bit of optimistic spin on an underwhelming possibility

My opinion has very little to do with the specific player other than the fact that I think everyone can agree he’s not a difference making talent. He’s somewhere between fine and good with no resale value. We just don’t have the flexibility to take on a player like this.

It would also be incredibly unimaginative when we’re meant to be rebooting things.

Bellamy was like 22 off a down season for a relegated club and had personality concerns that made him less attractive. That’d be a great profile to go for.

I’m not against DCL as a player per se, physical presence and someone who can hold the ball up, but obviously it’s the injury record and the fee/salary. As been mentioned, feels like lazy ”scouting”, has to be better value out there.

On one level, I'd find Mitchell stamping his authority on the situation by signing Dominic Calvert absolutely hilarious.

We don't know if he will sign off on it tbf.

Mitchell will have other irons in the fire, DCL does not match the profile of players we are looking for, I'd rather give Osula more minutes

I don’t mind DCL on a short term contract on a free to replace Wilson. Can imagine they’d be on similar lowie.

I did mind him for £40 million in the summer gone though. Absolutely shambolic signing it would’ve been at that price imo.

I don’t think his recent injury record has been all that bad.

His recent goal scoring record has been though.

We don't know if we're in for him at all... I'm happy to file it in the media bullshit bin for the time being.

Can’t argue with that.

Would rather we sign someone young but if funds are going to be tight, and it’s purely for backup, I wouldn’t be against taking the risk.

24 and under is Mitchell’s policy - which is what we need as the squad is a bit old in places
