NUFC Transfer Rumours

If we could bring a Bakayoko, or Dibling in this month would be such a good moment to strengthen. This is what we did well under Keegan, strengthen when things are going well.

Or Dibling ? McAtee looks to be more versatile mind.

I think Dibling is more likely in the summer, as they will ask for big money to get him now and we won't be able to get an initial loan I don't think.

Even if we got McAtee, if we then qualify for the Champions League, I'd go after Dibling too in the summer.

McAtee at 22 and Dibling at 18 secures that side for the long term and McAtee can also cover other positions.

Will be around £65 million for the pair of them too, which is pretty decent.

I think we'll see a Lewis Hall type loan with an obligation for McAtee at Man City, once Miggy leaves.

Was reading yesterday that they want £25 million for him.

Well worth a punt even if he only goes on to be a squad player, and he seems to have the potential to be more than that, especially once Howe gets a hold of him.

Will be a valuable addition as he can play on the right, upfront, number 10 and as an 8.

While project players like McAtee is exactly where we should be looking, there are a couple of issues.

1. He's wanting to leave city for first team football, which we can't offer, is he just swapping benches?

2. January might not make sense from our point of view. We will need someone who would be good to go and knowing Howe and knowing where McAtee is at, he isn't getting near our starting line up at current.

If we sold Longstaff, I could see us signing someone like him but for me, I think he'd prefer a bigger downward step at somewhere where he knows he's the main man.

Somewhere like West Ham under Potter would make a lot of sense to me, as they transition into a ball playing side.

With you on McAtee - his versatility is really important - something Eddie really likes too

FWIW - apparently they see Dibling as versatile too (not to the extent of McAtee)

I mean if McAtee is available for 25m it’s a complete no brainer

I think it's a bit different for McAtee as he's 22 and played a full season with Sheffield United last season. He got some decent experience and so I don't think it will be the typical Howe transition.

I imagine McAtee would be pretty confident of eventually usurping Murphy too, who is 29 and is more of a squad player in the long term.

The issue at Man City seems to be the lack of minutes on the whole, even with the injuries and struggles earlier in the season for them. They are now bringing in Marmoush who has his type of versatility to cover multiple positions, as does Oscar Bob who will be returning at some point.

There is no pathway there for him and he wasn't really given a fair crack when they were short and needed help.

At Newcastle I think initially he comes on plenty for Murphy, and also probably starts a number of games too. With Barnes out he can also provide cover for Gordon while Barnes is out.

He'll then have a realistic opportunity to nail down that spot on the right going forward, or at the very least start far more games if we go into Europe.

I’ve never really paid attention to him in the brief moments I’ve watched him, what we he bring us?

From what I've seen, he's more of a technically gifted type that looks to cut in from that right side onto his left to make things happen.

He seems to be highly regarded and I'm big on targeting these prospects that the likes of Man City and Chelsea let slip through because they keep spending and not nurturing their academy talent.

I get wanting to take a chance on Man City cast offs, but did he show much in the Prem last season to suggest he'd be the solution to our RW? Genuine question as I never seen much of him.

Cole Palmer never got a chance in the league until he moved away from City, and it didn't take him long to show his quality.

What are people expecting exactly with Dibling? He's well off coming in and providing the kind of numbers Gordon is, or even Murphy right now, so we'd still have to bring another RW in anyway. It's not like he'd be cheap either. That's not a position I think we can afford to sign a youngster, we need proper quality there.

CM, CB and even goalkeeper I think are three positions where we can afford to currently have sign someone who may take a season or two to come into their own before they take a first team spot.

In an ideal world we sign Dibling and an established RW in the summer and sell Murphy whilst his stock is high (should have done this with Miggy). Dibling is playing in one of the worst PL sides of all time and at times he looks incredible, still very raw and inconsistent but I believe he will become one of the best wingers in the PL in time, he has something pre Pep-ruined Grealish like about him.

From the highlights McAtee looks better and more direct than Dibling, but he also looks like far too much of short arse for what we need.

Four year age gap though, I think there is a huge difference between Dibling at 18 and McAtee at 18. I would be happy with either of them but I think Dibling's potential ceiling is much higher.

I don't think our PSR situation allows for the luxury of signing both an established and up and comming RW in the Summer. At least not for the fee involved for Dibling (likely 40m+). Think if we get CL we will go for someone like Mbeumo (finished article), think if it's Europa or below it will be someone like Dibling, who can grow into the role.

That would be ideal but I think even with selling Murphy and Miggy bring in Dibling AND a quality RW seems impossible. There's so many other positions that need filling in the summer as well, we won't have the funds to do that.

A great point about physicality. I think Howe is looking for a Space Jam Monstars approach to his recruitment. Yes they have to be good technically, but can they go 90 minutes at Arsenal, can they press for long periods, can they help defend set pieces.

I'm not saying it's essential but it's undoubtedly part of our recruitment focus.

This applies to both yours and Mazzy's post but this summer should leave us with a big amount to spend, especially if we sell a few. The year going off the books was a huge loss and alongside the assumed profit made this year should give us some wriggle room. I thought that last year so could be wrong!

If we could get Mbeumo he would act as ST cover as well and Dibling and then sign a new CB, I personally think that could be doable, but I am also prepared to be PSR disappointed!

Do concur there could/should be a decent amount to spend in the Summer. Especially if we get CL. But even then I think they'll be wanting to bring in a RW, CB, and potentially GK all at the level to go straight in if needed. Even being canny and filling some of those roles with cheaper European options is still likely going to be close to 100m.

 but also

Howe talks constantly about players being versatile and having the ability to play across the front line, so I would hazard a guess that it'll be someone physically capable, two-footed, direct, and competent in the air. Someone that might be similar to Olise in a few years maybe.

we've been saying we'll spend big next window for literal years now

feel like pure shit just want a marquee signing

If we can't at least theoretically spend big in the summer then the rules really are doing their job for the Big 6 teams. If it wasn't for the fact that we haven't really messed up on any of our transfers and Howe is a genius at getting the best out of players then we would have no chance.

They'll be thinking of new laws as we speak to hamstring us. Corrupt cunts!

It must boil their piss that we have the best midfield and striker in the PL, two England international fullbacks and we're the form team in the league, despite their best efforts to hold us back.

I wonder what the cartel will tell them to do next?

Mbeumo seems too old for us. There’s no chance to resell him for a profit. We sign younger players: Tonali at 23, Isak at 22, Hall at 19, Livramento at 20, Bruno at 23, Botman at 22, Gordon at 21.

Dibling is a good shout, so is McAtee. Mbeumo will be 26 at the start of next season.

With our PSR issues, signing anyone over 23 is risky. Dibling will be 19 at the start of next season, young for what we usually target but probably the best choice out of all the other potential targets.
