NUFC Transfer Rumours

Recommended Posts

I reckon Longstaff would probably do a McTominay and suddenly turn into a 10 goals from midfield type for a promoted team.

Actually nah he'll probably be the equivalent of when Dan Gosling went to Bournemouth and was a regular for them for many years.

I'm hoping the James Trafford rumours are not with the intetion to bring him in as a starter, rather as a back up for 1, 2 maybe even 3 years. Goalkeeping is a mentality game above all else, and it's why we see goalkeepers getting better with age and seldom do we see a young, early twenties top level goalkeeper. Their progression is very different to that of an outfield player.

Trafford having a good season in the Championship at Burnley tells me almost nothing other than that he's a talented goalkeeper; mentality-wise, the step up to the premier league is big, the step up to being the number 1 at Newcastle United is absolutely enormous.

I'd be concerned if he was our number 1 at this time.

If we spend 20 or 25m on him unfortunately he's not going to be a slow burn. Dubs may be off Pope is on a relatively short contract now so while he may not come in number 1 gairenteed he's going to start plenty of games.

I agree with your point on goalkeeping mentality being a major part of goalkeeping, and that coming with age. There’s any number of keepers that could be used to back-up that opinion, Pope being a prime example.

However, I think Trafford is an elite (some not far from here might say generational…) talent, who’s ready now.

He’s already been exposed to the PL, and although it didn’t go well, partly due to his own shortcomings and partly due to his teams style of play, he now knows exactly what to expect.

If/when he comes in, I don’t doubt Eddie will make the correct noises about there not being a specific No.1, and he might even continue with Pope (if still here) for a bit, but he’ll just be waiting for the chance to get Trafford in, and once he does, that will be that.

Think he has the potential to do well in a less pressured environment and a team that doesn't ask too much of him technically.

But he can’t really close down very well, he’s not athletic.

He's quite tall so he can get a good stride in to make up for lack of pace, a bit like Dan Burn. I think he could do a job in that department for a team mid-lower half of the table.

Would it not be the ideal time to make him number 1? He's going to come in with his confidence through the roof the way he's played. A few months on the bench might do the opposite of what he needs.

Trafford would also be approaching his 5th season of Pro football, he’s done his studying at this point.

He’s been exposed to more football at this point than Ederson / Allison was when they made their big moves.

Depends on the 5 keepers we have and who stays and who goes

Dubs was extended till summer but seemingly dropped for Pope once fit.

Pope unless we or him have an option to extend a year has 12 months left come the summer

Ruddy well who knows

Greek fella who going to buy him if he reportedly rejected Saudi.

I wouldn't be against him coming in number 1 but depends how early in the window he comes in and how he performs preseason etc.

Could see one of the promoted clubs thinking giving us what we paid for Pope as being a good deal. Meslier hasn't pushed on at Leeds, Burnley will need a new keeper to replace Trafford and he's been there before.

Pope part of the deal for Trafford?

He probably has 2-3 years left as a top level keeper? £10-12m to give you a chance of staying up, or at least getting you back up. Would make sense for one of those clubs. Burnley would make sense since they have what we want and he's been there before.

Just seen a random West Ham account saying they have to sell to be compliant with ffp. I'd love us to put in a bid for Kudus.

Can’t think of a realistic player I would take over Kudus.

Would anyone sign Paul Pogba as the backup CM? He's avaialble on a free - of course he hasn't played in a while but would be a quality addition for the likes of Miley to learn from?

yes, 100%

The DCL champions will say no though

Meslier is horrendous. They are going straight back down without a significant GK upgrade. If I were Leeds I'd be calling us every day asking if Pope is available.

Seen them both linked with Sam Johnstone for when they go up

Kobel £30M

Mbeumo £50M

Bardghji £20M

Delap £30M

I reckon we'd be challenging for the title with that lot - could afford it too.

Mbeumo for Akliouche and im all in.

Burnley already have Traffords replacement with Etienne Green.
