Probably from the understanding that we'll have to sell someone who commands a good fee soon if we want to progress. I don't think it'll happen this summer, but someone we love is going in the next year. 

 

Not condoning it, but I think thats what it is. 

 

Edit: this is in response to the selling barnes narrative.

I'd not even entertain an offer less than £75M. That's pretty much double what we paid for him and I don't think anyone would argue he's not twice the player he was then. 

 

But realistically if we NEEDED big money this summer and Liverpool/Man City would pay that then I'd certainly give it some good thought. That's crazy money for a full back and there's no shortage of quality in the market for us to replace him.

He's an England International as well to. Should rinse more out of them.

If Pope plays 40 games next season and Dubs plays 10 we are fine. Not perfect but we are fine.

 

Longstaff/Willock/Miley will play 40 games next season. It's not fine. We are significantly weaker whenever one of them is on the pitch. Every other good team in this division has a quality CM that is on the bench when everyone is fit.

You'd think these websites would try a bit harder. Who thinks we'd spend £68 million on a player for one of if not the only position we've already got 2 credible/interchangable options, not to mention he's 27 in the summer and only six months younger than Barnes anyway, when we've got glaring needs elsewhere now or will have in 12 months time.

 

Still they've made me bite so they've done their job

The other two are cold as well and I'd happily welcome them but an athletic & experienced CB is essential imo (alongside a RWer)
