NUFC Transfer Rumours

Rooted to his line at crosses. Had links with Leeds and a few others.

Selz is 30+..... he's seemingly improved crazy this year, he was a weak link last year.

We had him in his mid 20's.... he wasn't very good.

I dunno. I like Pope. Our lack of transfer wokeness has been an advantage for us. I don't want one of these regen keepers that can't handle pressure or a cross.

I know what you mean. I'm kind of feeling 'all or nothing' with the keeper, don't want us to be like Chelsea have have several who we don't know who is best, don't want us to be like Man U and sacrifice shot stopping for ball playing etc... But I'd be happy for us to go big if we are confident we find our guy for the next 10 years, if not then Pope is fine.

Can't say I've watched Trafford, but find it hard to believe he will be Pope's level at shot stopping, commanding area etc. There's not many super potential keepers it seems, so why aren't loads of other big clubs after Trafford if his potential is high? (could be wrong and he turns out great, he has overperformed his expected saves stat etc)

Joan García looks great from YouTube clips and is wanted by Arsenal and Barca, would love him

I think Trafford is actually superior to Pope in shot stopping. He has similar enormous wingspan, but probably more athleticism.

We’re he’s inferior is commanding the area. I don’t think it’s as much of an issue as some make out, but he’s definitely not at Pope’s level.

And obviously, he’s significantly better with his feet.

Agreed. Mamardashvili seemed perfect because although he's young, he looks much the finished product. It's a bad Valencia team but a big team nonetheless.

I guess I just don't want us to have a GK that has to learn on the job. And Howe is the type of manager to bench a player who needs that indefinitely anyway.

It's a massive deal in the PL. But it's something that can be improved.

Nope. Just don't want a 24 y/o GK from a midtable Ligue 1 team.

It's a Spurs signing.

Could obviously be incredibly wrong.

Yeah, that 24 y/o CM from a midtable Ligue 1 team we signed a few years ago was a disaster. As was the 23 y/o CB we signed six months later

Has there ever been a real high quality African keeper? I’m sure there probably has been, but I can’t think of one off the top of my head.

Suppose Grobbelaar was Zimbabwean wasn’t he? Long time ago though.

Goalkeeper specifically. As I mentioned elsewhere - there are exceptions but most GKs hit their peak later in their careers.

I look at the business other clubs have done:
Vicario

Sanchez

Martinez

Ramsdale

Kepa

Pope

The best business was the older GKs.

I like Vicario mind but a GK that needs to learn on the job will cost us points.

Maignan a keeper from the french league is absolutely brilliant too.

He plays for AC Milan. Seen him wear the armband.

People are being pedantic. It's not about the French league, it's about  inexperience at a high-level. Being a goalkeeper isn't like being a central midfielder

England club hunts star striker Boniface

In the winter he was close to moving to Saudi Arabia to join Al-Nassr.

In the end, the 70 million deal fell through and Victor Boniface (23) had to stay in Leverkusen.

It's no longer a secret that Leverkusen won't be entering the new season with both of its top attackers. Nor is it a secret that Boniface is the more likely candidate for sale.

The portal "Africafoot.com" reported on Saturday that the German international could be leaving the Bundesliga. Newcastle are said to be in advanced talks with Bayer Leverkusen regarding Boniface, with a transfer fee of €50 million imminent.

According to BILD, no negotiations have yet taken place between the two clubs, who could face each other in the Champions League next season. However, Leverkusen is definitely aware of the Englishman's strong interest in Boniface. The transfer fee mentioned could be in line with the club's expectations.

Would people be happy with the same transfer window as 23/24, 2 first team players in Tonali and Barnes, 2 top youngsters in Hall and Livramento (I know Hall was a loan)? Looking back on that window, I'd be delighted with the same again.

From a BBC podcast 2 years ago discussing this very topic. Only heard of the ones in bold. Apparently 10 best African 'keepers of all time.

Joseph-Antoine Bell

Yassine Bounou

Essam El Hadar

Vincent Enyeama

Alain Gouamene

Bruce Grobbelaar

Carlos Kameni

Edouard Mendy

Thomas Nkono

Mendy was very good for a time tbf. Not very familiar with many of the others outside Grobbelaar.

As it was from 2 years ago Andre Onana's stock must have been pretty high that time.

How come? I thought he was meant to be decent?

Injury prone. Off the field stuff going on. Leverkusen happy to get rid of him.

Personally not seen him play a ton of games but their fans say he ‘can’ be fantastic but wasteful. They don’t think he’s made for top tier football (body)

To be honest, if Leverkusen are looking to get rid of him there must a problem. They're already seemingly losing Alonso, Wirtz & Frimpong. I think I've seen that Schick is looking for a move too. The team seems to be getting gutted this summer.

It won’t be true anyway tbf.

I don’t really believe in anything unless it’s proper factual or from Ornstein for example. Gotta have something pointless to say about rumours  anyway I guess
