Anyone else not get excited by goalkeeper signings? 

Honestly, we could be signing Allison and I wouldn't be too bothered.

I'm all about outfield players, not goalies.

I’m excited. If we get the right combination of shot stopping, cross killing and ball playing it would add much to our game. This of course would be more welcome if along with a new RCB, RW and striker back up.

I agree. We could be signing prime Lev Yashin, and I'd be like "meh".

I’m excited. A better goalkeeper quite directly can turn draws into wins and losses into draws, hence cementing us as a team competing for CL qualification regularly.

I think it’s exciting to have change in such a big position. Not at all easy to upgrade on Pope though.

I think I would be now like. I wasn't when we got Pope, but once I saw him play the difference having him vs Dubravka was night and day. A top 'keeper is a massive difference maker.

I was really excited by Dubravka because we so desperately needed a better keeper and he looked mad on YouTube. The squad situation isn't as stark now, but I've definitely got a new appreciation on the gains to be had from a goalie upgrade. So a Spaniard who leaps between the posts like a puma would be pretty sockblowyoffy tbh.

I’d love to get him now because he seems like he’s Arteta’s number 1 target, so worth it just for the Arsenal Fan TV fume.

 

Plus it would probably be our first flex of us being seen as equals to other top 5 teams in the market, rather than not in the running for players like this.

100%. I totally appreciate the difference a top keeper would make. But it doesn't give you the same buzz as a sexy new right winger or a top class up-and-coming striker

I think the playing out from GK and some pace at CB are the only areas where we've significantly been weaker than the rest of the top 7 this season.

 

Add those two things to what we already have, plus the RW and squad depth, and fuck me, we could win the thing next year.

I think it's really difficult to improve on Pope the way Pope initially improved on Dubs.

 

He came in and was imperious until the red card. Improved us in every way and his on the ball work was less noticeable.

 

When he got injured we felt a massive backslide in composure in defence. A marked decline in dealing with crosses and shot stopping but it became more noticeable that Dubs was better on the ball.

 

Pope skills + distribution is an elite GK

Szczesny says Joan Garcia is the best keeper in La Liga (so do many fans). Good enough for me. Hope it happens.
