NUFC Transfer Rumours

Apart from Brennan Johnson, who we aren't signing and isn't cheap, how do we know any of these are good enough for this league?

I'm not saying they are/aren't FWIW, but I'm not the one signing a multi-million pound cheque and basically staking my job on them.

We were told Moussa Diaby was class, along with countless other players and it turned out the foreign football experts were massively wrong.

If we are signing from abroad, let's go for someone who is of real pedigree like Tonali and Isak were, or don't bother at all.

We either take the risk of signing unproven players on less expensive deals, or we take the risk of paying big fees/wages for the proven talent but not having the numbers to compete on multiple fronts.

Personally, I prefer the former because I trust whoever is recommending targets - not just the ones we've signed but the ones we were tracking who have gone on to become very good players (eg. Pedro, Ekitike, Szoboszlai and so on)

Im starting to come round more to the first option. There’s less risk in the sense that we now have a spine of solid premier league performers and our previous recruitment has done pretty well from the continent hasn’t it 😂 If signing from the content allows us to spread the load more in terms

of signings then so be it.

Fair enough on Diaby but ultimately he wasn't good enough. He was regularly left out of their side and quickly moved on.

We didn't overpay on Tonali. The only people who said that at the time were massively jealous from what I remember.

I agree entirely on the last part though.

Nah lots of people with good reputations said we overpaid for Tonali and Isak. They were gambles.

I don't think Daiby wasn't good enough. His stats speak for themselves. He played every league game and completed 34 games worth 90 minutes in all comps. I think they realised Rogers was going to be better and they could get all of their money back for Diaby, they had major FFP issues so he was sold. He wasn't a flop or anything. He played regularly and contributed well to a team that finished 4th. He performed better than any one of the Chelsea attackers and i wouldn't class Pedro Neto as a flop - just not a major success.

Do you think it would be possible at any given time for Eddie to go for a real flair player who can unlock tight low-block defences (the teams we have struggled against)?

A ben-arfa esque player, or a beardsley... Tyler dibling is the only player I can think of that would fit the mould???

Im not saying he’s a world beater but it’s not bad getting 16 goal involvements if he was terrible for over half of the season.

Aye fair point, think only 3 of them came in the last few months, 2 being the last game of the season at home to Leicester.

You want 3/4 randoms over proven players  ? Why?

I'm sure everyone would prefer proven players, but generally they will choose cartel clubs if they are competing for the same players.
