NUFC Transfer Rumours

Eddie wants us to move early, and the club needs to move early to secure primary targets.  Agreed it's only the 3rd but other clubs have started doing business.

Not quite so easy when the reported 'primary' targets are the ones that the other clubs are doing business for.

Despite footballing logic right now, Man U are still a bigger draw to players, plus wages. Chelsea, bigger draw plus wages. And so on atm until it reaches our turn so to speak.

I'm not so sure Man Utd would be as big a draw if it weren't for the wages right now

What's people's thoughts on Ousmane Diomande?

He used to get hyped loads a year or so ago, now the hype has died down.

21 years old, 6ft 3, rapid, good 1 v 1, amazing in the air, and supposedly very progressive with his passing / making runs.

€80m release clause, though he has 2 years left on his deal now, so wonder if it could be negotiated lower.

Highly praised, good data metrics but most importantly, he passes the YouTube highlights test

We were linked for a while. Seemed like the price (60mill I think) took us to Sven.

The point is that none of us know exactly what is going on behind the scenes. We are notoriously quiet about our dealings so I would say it's incorrect to assume nothing is happening. If we're still sitting here having signed no one by mid-July, then I will start freaking out myself. I expect we will be busy over the next month.

And while I like Mbeumo, we can't pay him 180k/pw. We can't pay anyone that yet and I wouldn't want him to be the first. Maybe Isak's new deal can hit that mark. It's shit that ManUtd can pay those types of wages due to their huge commercial revenue advantage, but they can. Hopefully we cut into that advantage over the coming years. Until we do, wages will be a stumbling block for a certain type of player.

Would everyone be alright finishing the window with 2 signings, both around 60mil each?

Personally...im just holding off for a tenuous link to a new RW from the continent, none of these premier league players...one of the NE journos will swing by soon enough with a scoop... a morsel, just give me a morsel please...I want a new thread about said player to click frantically, only to dismiss it as rubbish.

But yeah i will take £60m each

No - I think we need much more squad change and depth.

We need to be selling 2-3, and buying 6-7.

If last summer teams were able to buy players like Hujisen and Milenkovich for 10-15m, and if Brentford just bought kelleher for 18m, then we also need to be able to find and buy 3-4 players in that sort of range that we have scouted well.

No would leave us criminally short with all the extra games to play.

Where in a tricky situation with limited funds where we need to improve the first 11 but also the squad depth.

No, that means Bruno Sandro and Joelinton are getting flogged and having exhausted central midfielders is a disaster. Also watching Isak play on one leg was painful, another season of that and one leg would be the best case scenario.

Not addressing the right wing and Centre half isn't viable.

Absolutely not. Makes all that effort to get to the CL worthless if we don't actually bother strengthening and deepening the squad.

Nope

Obviously there's nowt I could do about it apart from whinge but only 2 signings would be quite negligent going into a season with the extra games

Some might say it's only an extra 8 games but that means 16 league games are impacted by it, only 2 signings doesn't go anywhere near enough to prepare for that

If the squad remained intact, sounds ok to me - but I think we'll see movement out, and each of those will need a replacement

It’d be no where near good enough. Assuming the two signings are a right winger & centre half then we’d have to go again with Wilson as back up to Isak and Pope needs upgraded. The bench options are just so weak relying on Wilson, willock and longstaff coming off the bench week after week.

Yeah our bench has no difference makers just players you’d bring on to see out the game, including a keeper a minimum of 5 players required for me.

This is why the scouting network and not paying over the odds for PL players is crucial.

Suspect we’ll get 3 tops and the narrative will be that we’ve prioritised quality over quantity.

Two versatile first teamers would do me, RW who can play CF and a nonsoft AM whose good on the ball. Someone good enough to depose Murphy (who's good) and someone good enough to depose Joelinton (who's also good), esp. in games we're expected to win. I'm playing the "Botman is like a new signing" card in defence.

If we sign 5 players then you'd have to assume all 20-40. Million each. Maybe one higher but not 300m spend

Need a minimum of 5 of decent quality for squad building.

2 immediate “battle ready” first team players who can come in and uplift the starting 11. No surprises these would be RW and RCB.

A new GK could be useful but I’ve got less concerns on Neek Pope. However, he’s only got 1 year left on his contract and we either sell this summer to cash in, or accept we’ll get diminishing amounts going forward. If Trafford is the option, I’d sell Popey to Leeds and use the money to offset against Trafford’s purchase. Doesn’t look like the Greek wants to go to Saudi so it’ll be a loan with wages covered for him.

Beyond that, we need one good CM to bridge the drop off in quality from the 3 top lads, and to allow rotation. This is a non-negotiable. Joelinton’s combative style means he missed 1 in every 3 through suspension or injury and we can’t replace him with the current players. I’d sell Willock and aim to replace with someone like an Ederson.

We need a replacement for Wilson. Begrudgingly with all the other squad building we need, I think this will be Calvert-Lewin.

Depending on Tripps we may also need a right back.

No strikers want to come to us because of how good Isak is, we’re always going to have that problem. Accept it or not but there’s a very good chance we’ll end up with a DCL or something.

Personally think Isak is here for one more season.  Ideally you would want to bring a player in this season to share the role with him and then take over next.  If and when he goes, no doubt other clubs will be asking monstrous fees for any replacement we are looking at so we don’t want to end up desperate next summer.

There must be some younger players out there who are happy to learn from Isak knowing they are the future like Livramento was happy to learn from Trippier and take his chances when they arrived.
