Not sure why anyone is expecting any business to be done until close to July onwards.

Not to mention the strong links for some of the players we went on to sign in July. But more than anything...

No significant signings in 3 windows

Howes comments of acting quickly

The lack of sporting director to negotiate these deals come end of June.

Risk targets going elsewhere is sit and wait.

Not panicking yet but disappointed if we can be active and aren't being (no way of knowing this).

Do we ever really sign players in June? Isak, Livramento, hall, Barnes & Tonali were all signed in July & August. Botman and Pope were signed in June but it was in last week of June

There’s no stress  at this moment in time for me as it’s very early days. Having said that, I still think we will be very slow at getting the players over the line. We will get some players in but I’d be surprised if we do it even close to something you can call “effectively” or similar.

Howe can say what he likes but it’s far more likely things are being put in place to move early July after PSR enters a new cycle.

Target was a loan made permanent, pope was late June, Minteh wasn’t a first team signing and Kelly was a free transfer.

the reality is we start making moves in July for whatever reason.

Targett wasn't a loan made permanent, there was no obligation or option. His loan ended and we were linked with Lodi for weeks before he went to Forest and we then signed Targett.

Pope was linked strongly and 'done' for a week or two before he officially signed.

It's definitely partially because we're feeling starved and signings do tend to happen more in July, but it's not just the lack of signings but the lack of strong links that's making it more boring than in previous summers. .

Hmm, maybe there was an option?

Either way I distinctly remember it not happening for a while after the season ended and with us being linked to Lodi, because everyone was just like 'just sign Targett ffs!'

I don’t recall but the point is I’m sure that deal would have been relatively easy to do.

Didn’t Burnley just get relegated? Again probably an easy deal to do.

things will start moving in late June, july

I feel like the only way to do deals quickly or decisively is to either be one of the elite clubs or just spend money like it's no object in the way that Man City or Chelsea do.

Apart from that you are going to either have to be lucky to find a player who really wants to come and doesn't have other offers to consider, or a club that really wants to sell for financial reasons. Only so many players fall into that category and it might not be the ones we want.

I hope to fuck we're not signing Kühn. The guy is a one trick pony, weak as cats piss and has the heart of a mouse.

Other than that though...

Aye it's not great news and we do have a track record of moving early. The last 3 were all considered coups and have proved important to us in different ways.

It's not the end of the world and we can still do great business in the window. But it hasn't been a good start and there's obvious disruption upstairs.

If your transfer policy is looking at PL players who are performing at a high level you will be fishing in the same pool as the ESL6 clubs. Bruno, Isak, Botman, Tonali are now in that category but we took a calculated risk that they would perform in the PL whilst the ESL clubs slept in. We need to look to the continent.

Or line up deals during the 18 month to 2 years where you've signed absolutely no one. It's not like we've been short of time to get shit sorted early doors
