NUFC Transfer Rumours

I'm wondering if we have two different ranges of targets for CB: a couple of more established names in the £50-60m range and then a few in the Livramento/Hall mold in the £30-40m range. Then what happens with our targets in other positions + sales could then determine which group of targets we select from later in the window.

I mean, I’d hope that we have a list of targets in every price range.

we plan on doing what?

Nusa has been fantastic for Norway, but I'm not sure he's a good fit for Eddie Howe with all the high pressing and defensive work required. I think some of the reason that he shines for Norway is that I think he has less defensive responsibility there than with Leipzig. Besides he's a left winger, we don't need that currently. Imo that link isn't very credible. Maybe the Xavi Simons link is more credible.

For what its worth and taking into account the unreliability of much of the reporting into transfer links that we are reading, this seems a very unoriginal predictable group of players we are interested in. They are all overpriced and as soon as there is competition for them we apparently can't afford them. Mbeumo, Delap, Cunha if we were interested, and possibly Pedro if Chelsea really want him. Trafford we will probably get as there is little or no competition though we are going to overpay for him no doubt. Elanga is overpriced at 45m and Forest want much more.

It makes you wonder why you would have so many scouts and whatever if this is the best they can come up with. Virtually everyone on this forum could have come up with the names of the players we have been linked with so far.

Hopefully as we go into July we will see some new names we are linked with the dont already play in  the premier league and cost 60 million quid.

I don't agree that the players are overpriced. We don't tend to go for bad players, and it's not that easy to get clubs to sell us their best ones.

How long before Chelsea are exploring a deal.

They still need to jump in for Elanga and Trafford yet, give them some breathing room.

I think it's fair enough to at least try for these guys first as a priority, because we believe their Prem experience means they will have a quicker impact.

If it doesn't pan out then go for the alternatives.

There was an article this week that said the club had set a soft deadline to move on to other targets eventually.

Think it was a week from this coming Monday.

I'm interested to see if we have changed tack on alternatives this season. Last time round Howe seemed to intimate that the pool of players we were interested in was very small, and he was reluctant to trade down from his targets. I think he would prefer to pay what it takes to get his preferred choices in and might veto players he's not that keen on.

Well if other clubs are signing his preferred targets because they are able to spend more or pay more in wages, we'll have to look elsewhere. No other choice really.

It was a shocking decision last year, we wanted Hjuisen after him being available last summer, instead we begged to massively overpay for Guehi, luckily Palace  continued to take the piss all summer. Hopefully we've learned. I wonder how many scouts we've had at the U-21 and CWC championships

I think Howe might prefer us to stop playing hardball on fees and pay what it takes to get his first choice players through the door.

That's pretty much his call now though.

I think we have a budget for a number of positions and so can't afford to just pay what is being asked for right away.

I imagine there’s a running amortisation + wages budget overall that needs to be sorted across all transfer activities.

That’s not going to be Howe’s remit as he does not negotiate salaries nor fees.

There will be a small team working on the art of the possible with a cost budget that includes amortisation, wages and likely bonuses. And a prediction of revenue through league and cup performances

There's a limit to that though surely?

Mbeumo at >£62m and potentially just shy of £200k/week for example. What if Pedro goes to Chelsea for £65m and they give him £200k/week?
