NUFC Transfer Rumours

Recommended Posts

Just two spare bodies would go a long way towards refreshing the squad boosting morale and covering for injury. Even on loan. Could be the difference between fifth and seventh - ie CL or conference league

surely it’s worth it. They don’t even have to be starters, just someone Howe can actually use as he doesn’t like using A Murphy or Neave etc

We spent a lot of money last summer, none of those players are write-offs with Wissa and Ramsey having slower starts than we would have liked owing to injury, and if we decide that we do need major surgery up front or down the wings then it will require some serious thought and probably an attempt to recoup some money in the summer to come.

So I didn't expect us to make any major moves this transfer window, but given the injuries at the back, Trippier's age and some niggles in the midfield I really don't see why one addition - a backup left-back or maybe even an experienced holding midfielder - is beyond us. The league is a shitshow this year and we're right in the mix, so I don't think a bit of help would go amiss.

We spent £95m last summer, joint 9th with Forest.

I just never know how many squad places are actually available. Like for Neave, we now have Osula back. We have 2 players per position in most positions.

Of course we as fans can say "if X player gets injured we are weak", but I just don't know if the club can actually operate like that in reality.

Ashby was in, and he’s now punted out on loan, so that’s at least one place.

We already have squad type players imo. We should be aiming to sign players who will improve the starting 11.

It does feel like we're standing still to some extent. As others have said, a couple of fresh bodies in the door to just give the squad a boost should be imperative. Not sure who like but we have an extensive scouting setup for that. We do don't we?

Think it’s hard this window personally, for me we need players to come in and be better than whoever they replace in the starting 11. We filled the squad out in the summer and haven’t really seen any benefits from it yet. For me our struggles stem from not improving the starting 11 for a couple of years.

Can't really buy first team players in January unless you are City.

Apart from Thiaw the players we bought in the summer now feel like panic buys. I know Howe was keen on Elanga for a while like. I don't think they were exactly what we needed but we had to get players in. Like Woltemade. I love the lad but he's nowhere near what we really needed although I do think he'll become a good player for us.

Easy with hindsight like.

Did we really fill out the squad? We did let go of Kelly, Longstaff, Wilson and Targett remember.

Even forgot about the rat lol :D

We improved the quality of the squad options, in theory.

Of course we also suffered the loss of our best first team player at the same time.

I think so, we certainly have better depth, although the quality is still lacking.

Always felt short of atleast one LB. Also remember thinking at the time that we needed another CM, but not sure anymore now that Miley has taken that next step up.

Can't help thinking the club is letting Howe down this January, we could obviously do with a bigger squad with all the games we have, yet we just do nothing.

Improving the first 11 is more important at the moment. It’s taken Arsenal 6-7 years to have the squad they have and that was built on a solid foundation of starters. I’d rather see someone who can come straight into the team and improve it than someone who will play on an irregular basis.

Other than Semenyo, Guehi and perhaps Gallagher, I've not seen one player go anywhere this January where I think oh they'll be a great addition and improve the XI.

Abraham and Luiz at Villa are ok - would be more filler.

Not seen any other big signings - football with PSR really has become so much more boring.

Even Mateta is the big name going into the last few days of window. He's good but not sure if a big enough upgrade.

Personally I would just have kept Targett, dunno what the story behind that one is.

He wanted to play, he was pretty much 4th choice LB at the start of the season.

I think it’s more that we were expecting so many games that we would need significantly better options to come in.
