We could absolutely buy young, lesser established (and thus cheaper) players who need developing - but they will likely have less impact and the short-term risk profile is far higher. And in a world where PSR/SCR is a major concern, you can't afford many fuck ups. Everyone lauds the Brighton model - but Brighton have finished below us in each and every season in Howe, the Champions League qualification count is 2-0 and the trophy count is 1-0. I'd also say for all the moans, our transfer business post-takeover has very easily been one of the best in the Premier League. We don't miss very often. The difference is Brighton have to sell their players as soon as they interest a cartel club, whereas we could fend off to a greater extent, especially if we already had a couple come through and improve the 11. TRC
Would like Ross Wilson to come out and explain our transfer strategy this window. Still in 4 competitions, thread bare squad. Just feel like we need a lift.
Ilovetoon8788
As long as we stop the obsession with the so called premier league proven players, I'd be happy.

The Prophet
When talking about our business last summer, I find it helpful to refer to the gross spend minus any context. Recouping £130 million for one of our best players and needing to reinvest it immediately? Unimportant. Missing out on multiple first choice targets, in part due to a vacuum in executive leadership at the club? Meh. No spend in the previous three transfer windows? So what? Limited training ground time to maximise the impact of a number of the new signings? Who cares? Eddie alone was given £250 million to spend this summer and now the alloted time allowed for a transitional period has passed, he must be criticised. No, but had we signed Guehi and Pedro (Two Prem proven players), you reckon we still go after Thiaw or Big Nick? Not saying I totally agree with the notion that he (EH) only wants prem proven players, but as above, I doubt we sign either Thiaw or Wolte if we get the first couple, that we went for first. Thiaw no, Woltemade perhaps. Although we were in for Pedro before dickhead chucked his toys out the pram, so it was completely different dynamic. But, regardless, that isn’t really the point. If we’re “obsessed” with buying PL-proven players, spending £100m on players from the Bundesliga is an odd way to show it.

I don't think theres any question, Wolte was a bit of a panic buy in the end. Look at the list of alternatives before we got to him. Had we landed any of them, we aren't spending £60m+ on him. TheHoob
Before this summer our hit-rate for signings has been fairly outrageous since the takeover, I feel like I live in a parallel universe at times when I see some comments about our recruitment As always our biggest obstacle is PSR. Indeed. Our biggest issue is wages as well. The fee's are obviously a problem, but it's more a case of finding players at the fee's we can pay who will accept the wages on offer is the biggest hurdle imo. SUPERTOON
It’s till relatively early days of course, but the signings of Ramsey and Elanga in particular have been disastrous imo. Wissa looks poor as well, Wolt doesn’t look suited to us at all. Hardly a surprise people aren’t happy with the business we have done.

A good signing think Wissa and Elanga both need time, must have started around 10 games combined
