We've got enough midfielders who don't score or assist

Still a player in there - just needs Eddies coaching and Bruno's love

I’m the opposite I can totally see why we won’t.

The squad probably needs some sort of

overhaul and that’s going to be more doable in the summer. We’re in touching distance of the European places and it’s not out of the question Howe finds a solution and grinds results to get us there - I don’t think we’ll suddenly start playing beautiful football but we’re capable of getting results.

Add in PSR and how poor value is in January and I just can’t see it.

Personally I think we’re desperate for a 1st team addition for a morale boost but I can see why it won’t happen.

If we had won on Sunday we would've gone fourth. It's not like we're having this terrible season, we're getting some good results, the football just is pretty bad on the eyes most of the time.

We're in this hard position where the players we need to take us to the next level cost a lot of cash or we have to unearth some crazy gem. That doesn't usually work well in January.

We spent a lot of money last summer, none of those players are write-offs with Wissa and Ramsey having slower starts than we would have liked owing to injury, and if we decide that we do need major surgery up front or down the wings then it will require some serious thought and probably an attempt to recoup some money in the summer to come.

So I didn't expect us to make any major moves this transfer window, but given the injuries at the back, Trippier's age and some niggles in the midfield I really don't see why one addition - a backup left-back or maybe even an experienced holding midfielder - is beyond us. The league is a shitshow this year and we're right in the mix, so I don't think a bit of help would go amiss.

The squad is fine-ish and one of the problems with already being this good is that it's very hard to improve meaningfully unless you're bringing in a legitimate superstar. And that's just not something you can reasonably expect in the January window.

I would like a backup fullback just so I don't need to have a heart attack every time Hall or Livramento as much as slightly stumble on the pitch. Beyond that, keeping the powder dry for the summer isn't the worst thing in the world.

PSR and VAR have really fucking spoiled the excitement of football, love it or hate it, the transfer window used to be so entertaining and celebrating a goal in real time us something I really miss.

With so much money in the game now the cartel need them to ensure the billions continue to line their pockets.   Sadly the game is gone as we know it.

I've said it before, if the PL was a single company with a strategy instead of a member's club it would never allow this. They'd want the max money in for the most exciting product possible. Or at least they would allow everyone to spend competitively at around the same level.

Rumours that 2 German teams could be in for big Willy. A teenage Watford striker being looked at as his 'project' replacement. JPM from Palace also rumoured. 2 defenders also (no names given).

As usual, pay these rumoured no mind until something is official

It’s till relatively early days of course, but the signings of Ramsey and Elanga in particular have been disastrous imo.

You people are beyond help.

I think there’s a sizeable chance that Tonali and Tino go and I wouldn’t be that surprised if Gordon went too maybe back to Liverpool. Whatever happens I do think there’ll be some major squad adjustments. The defence other than possibly Tino is pretty settled but we’ll need a new right CB and probably replacing Tino. We’ll need a new starting goalkeeper, possibly replacing Tonali and probably upgrading/freshening up the wing and striking positions.

Willock to go too as he’ll be down to 12 months on his contract and probably Osula, at the very least on a loan deal.

Weve got a lot of work to do in the summer and it's a world cup year. I don't envy those who's job it is in the summer like.

At least we have people in the job this summer.

We have Ross Wilson who if we are being honest is a guy with a mixed track record and lacking elite experience.

Absolutely, but can’t be any worse than having no one qualified, like last summer.

You know the saying things can always be worst right?

Who knows how it will play out, we have to do better this summer though. Massive amount to do in a disrupted period of time.

Saw on some shitty supposed Newcastle related FB page that we are considering zouma. They can fuck right off with that, my vote in the Eddie Howe poll will be straight into "Eddie Out" if that ever happened.

If both Tino and Tonali go in summer it’ll be for big money you’d think. I think Tino is excellent but again if (big if) we can scout well and bring a replacement in, not a massive problem. Tonali going leaves us incredibly light in midfield, and that is before we look at trying to upgrade any positions. It’s a whole lot of work.

We probably need the following if both the above go

GK upgrade

Midfielder x 2

CB

RB starter

RB backup

LB backup

Forward (Right sided)

I can see the merits of not burning cash now on someone we don’t really rate at January prices with all that to do in summer.

Do folk think the lack of signings this/plugging the holes/leaving us short would suggest that the season's targets have changed?

Is the expectation to make a CL push?
