NUFC Transfer Rumours

If we’re allowed losses of around £84M this season and we have an operating loss of £70m before we consider Osula, Greek gk, new player contracts, agent fees etc.

No champions league revenue, we really don’t have a lot of cash (if any) for new players. I don’t think we’ll do any business this month. We will wait to summer and hope to get champions league. If we don’t get champions league we will likely have to sell a star player.

But we do have the adidas contract to calculate in for 24/25.

Interesting to see whether the champions league revenue is similar to the difference between adidas new revenue and Castore old revenue.

I still think we’ll have a bigger operating loss this year which will leave no room for new signings unless someone like Miggy or Longstaff go.

I dont want a repeat of last summer when we had to sell at the start of summer. I’d just prefer to sign no one in Jan.

It was mentioned yesterday Harvey Elliott (21) was looking to move on from Liverpool, I could honestly see Eddie shaping him to be quality, he could be the answer to the right midfield.

I'd also throw in Kubo, and Edon Zhegrova of Lille.

It's a shame we can't use all our money to just accelerate it all but then I think would feel a bit souless if just mop up all top players, Man City and Chelsea just plastic clubs at this point.

Im happy to currently “naturally” grow, a few seasons of regular European football and if we can grab a cup within the next 5 years I’m happy.

Yeah, it’s much better naturally building a side but no real signing in 3 windows is tedious and boring.

Of course. The Man City story has never once appealed to me and teams being prevented from doing what they did is pretty much fine with me.

... But the fact that NUFC is restricted from injecting hundreds of billions of Saudi wealth into buying the Premier League isn't the issue with PSR. The issue is that each competitor has unique restrictions (or lack of) placed upon them.

We were purchased by The Saudis 7th October and the Premier League changed their rules 14th October.  Let that sink in.  Corruption at it's finest.🤬

The problem we have is that the PSR referenced here is still applicable for this 2024/2025 season, but for next season (and following season) we have new rules coming in whereby a club qualifying for European competition (which we hope to do) can only spend 70% of their revenue on wages + transfers (amortisation), in line with Uefa rules. So whilst theoretically we may be able to spend some money (which as others have said, is nowhere near 80m because last reporting period we were already losing 71m before any player transfers), spending significantly would set us up for PL points deductions and possible exclusion from European competition in 2025/26.

As ever, the club needs to raise revenue, which will probably mean inevitable ticket price increases, but hopefully especially continued progress on the commercial revenue side (approx. 40% increase year on year since takeover).

What it all boils down to indeed is a slow build for the next few years, and smart selling as well as buying. Hopefully Eddie can keep us over-performing relative to richer clubs while we attempt to close the gap.

Absolutely 100% this. A cap on spending is fine in principle, not a cap that indefinitely locks every club in their place at some random point in time.

I watched this yesterday and recommend it even if it is a bit long:

Maguire makes some very good points, including why any legal challenge is unlikely to succeed (PL being a members club and clubs like us now perhaps entertaining legal challenges having previously agreed to these rules).

The fees aren't accounted for up-front they just go on to our overall amortisation. The profit from sales (minus the remaining amortisation) are accounted for straight away, so in terms of fees Osula and Vlachodimos are £6m on our overall amortisation this season, minus Minteh's amortisation (if he had stayed) that's about £3.5 in additional amortisation. Minus Miggy and Joelinton, who became fully amortised (or as near as makes no difference over their new contracts), that's another £12 off our our overall amortisation. So our total amortisation figure for this season is at least £9.5m lower than last season.

Gordon's and Bruno's new contracts will have also reduced their amortisation, spreading the remaining out over 5 years, particularly Gordon whose amortisation was previously spread over 3.5 years, that will at least cancel out the increase in wages for them.

Did we not give Joelinton a pretty hefty wage hike (and contract extension) in this period too? Then there is bonuses to take into account if we finish higher and qualify for Europe/CL. I think we’re sailing pretty close to the wind financially, as evidenced by having to fire sell Anderson and Minteh in late June of last year.

We will sign plenty in the summer when we have CL football.

How much is that worth - net? £30m? That’s a couple players and new contracts for Hall and Livramento.

Have to consider new rules too.

Yep, a couple of quality signings RW and CB, then if we shift a couple we will can tart up the squad in other areas.

Also, with total respect to you, I'm not convinced anyone on here has a clue about our finances. Guess? speculate? sure, but I don't think anyone has it nailed..... I certainly don't.

What do you mean by that? The new owners have brought in one of the best commercial directors in football, hired loads of new staff, brought in new sponsors every year to increase commercial revenue by more than their target, and a higher percentage than probably any of our competitors over the same time period.

They have decided not to increase ticket prices  massively, which I think is to be commended.

TV revenue they have little control over, but they’re certainly doing a damn sight better than the competition as well by having us punch above our weight on the pitch.

What else do you want them to do? Simply break the rules of the PL and Uefa by having Aramco sponsor us for hundreds of millions per year, and then getting us expelled from Europe and regelated to the Championship?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’d much rather this version of NUFC, where we progress to the top in a way that any other owner with half a brain could have done, than a steroid charged one blowing everybody away with the near limitless funds of the people of Saudi Arabia.

Sure the APT rules get rolled back from tomorrow. We’ve now got the Head of PIF Europe on our board, I don’t think we should be worrying about much.

Where a serious football club now, with serious people running us.

It is true - revenues aren’t keeping pace with costs (in line with current and new rules) to allow us to invest significant amount without sales.

last years performance and our behaviour over multiple windows gives us a clue about our financial position.

I can categorically say we can’t spend £90m without sales. That’s the likely cost of a ready made CB + RW.

My comment was more about psr than at the club. I’ve no doubt they are doing their best. Absolutely can’t complain one bit about the recruitment so far

Aye, PSR has reduced the January transfer window to an absolute snooze.

I agree with that, but this is only true because the increase in cost from an Ashley run skeleton club (including playing squad) to the current one making progress in all areas and with a playing squad that pisses all over the one from 3 years ago. In short: the owners have used the available spending room extremely well and have now run into the limitations put in place to stop us from challenging by continuing to spend at the same rate. Yet they are still finding ways to keep us challenging.

You appear to be very frustrated by something entirely beyond your control or the control of our owners. Realistically these owners have done everything and more than could have been expected post Ashley. Just enjoy the ride man

They won’t be getting the bonuses, if they’re not playing.

But they will be guaranteed their 80k (?) per week for 8 years for keeping fit and for many of them, living in a city that's been a dream since they were kids.

@Unbelievable I’m not having this conversation again in full. With the power, influence and money PIF have I think they could do more to raise revenues if they applied creativity and aggressive action.

Maybe it will come. If we don’t we’ll have to break this team apart and come again. Which is also fine.

You have no idea what they have tried behind the scenes.

Let me ask you this: do you actually enjoy being a NUFC fan these days, or do you long back to the Ashley years?
