NUFC Transfer Rumours

The Mbeumo ship has sailed, but I think that's okay.

Between Howe, Nickson and now Mitchell too, I'm sure they'll find someone plenty good enough.

Howe is also continuing to show that he'll get excellent production from players with even just a bit of talent that I just don't think we need to be too concerned about getting players that are good enough.

Agree, the whole point of getting Mitchell on board was to unearth the next Mbuemo, not pay top dollar once he's been discovered. That said, if his contract running down means his price is on a downward trend, then there could be business to be done. I have a feeling there'll be too much competition though.

Interesting.

Wonder what the fee was.

Have you seen much of him then? Not that good a fit?

I think we just got approached and made aware of the clause which we probably knew about already. (50m).

Haven’t seen him this season but his numbers don’t look as good this season as to before from what I remember.

Seen him only a few games last season and he has a lot of attributes that I like for that right hand side. Perhaps lacking physically mainly. So can’t really say too much. Seems like he has regressed slightly (for whatever reason).

50m was the fee.

I like him for our RW option. Would have taken the punt.

Hmmm ... pounds or Euros?

Just looking at his profile on some of these data sites and I'm guessing his lesser defensive contributions was a factor in us not being keen.

I see

Yeah, might be a physicality and defensive ability thing.

Honestly, with the right attributes and mentality Howe and co. can turn water into wine when it comes to players. Psr aside;  I’ve loved what we’ve been doing previously in terms of transfers.

Pretty certain that our new RW will be a dynamic one that is good technically. Hopefully a bit more flair/creativity than our current ones offer imo.

In a perfect world Olise would have been just perfect imo. That one was never happening though. The kind of profile that I want. I’d be ok with Arda Guler too ;)

I really like Mbuemo but would he suit how we play? Brentford seem to play on the break much more than us.

I think so at the moment at least. Murphy has been effective as we've made use of his pace and directness recently, Mbuemo has these traits and is even more lethal. I think Bruno moving forward reduces the need for a RW with guile over pace, finishing and crossing as Bruno is bringing that closer to the goal now. Case in point the pass for Isak's second goal yesterday. Longer term Miley also looks like he'll bring this with his passing.

Kang-in Lee for me, like

Would be a great signing reading rumours about him and remember in summer there was a premier league club who had approx €70 million bid rejected for him but according to an article from a week ago asking price is now €44 million.

Bringing him in will increase shirt sales from South Korean fans massively

What I’ve noticed is that when they pay £50m plus they go for big established names who are young and best years ahead. Isak, Tonali and Guehi. All are finished articles as is but with growth potential also.

the 40m range are the good and could be great in Gordon and Bruno (

the 30m range are the superstar youngsters - Hall and Tino

20m and below are the guys that can do a job, Burn, Targett, Wood. Trippier coz of age.

this seems to be the profile.

Could see them preferring Lee Kang In or Kubo at 40m rather than Mbuemo at 50m+

Is it?  We actually enquired about Elanga in the summer and a few places reported we made a couple of bids.  We have been genuinely linked a couple times, no?  Not just social media influencer wankers on Sky and idiots like Merson and Deeney constantly banging on about Arsenal signing Isak.  Is it also that unrealistic as a signing?

Plus plenty on here seem to not want him, anyway.  I doubt you'll find many Arsenal fans who don't want Isak

Yes. It is. There’s an underlying assumption that we can swoop in and buy him if we choose to. Like the Arsenal shower talking about Isak.

Again. Who is saying that? Most people are saying he’s going to be valued around £50m or more. Which is a bit rich for us and also that player.

Not remotely comparable.

I don't think I could handle the routine misspelling of Mbeumo were we to sign him. There's been some rough times on these forums over the past twenty years but thankfully the nadir remains the Huntington/Huntingdon saga circa 2007. Let's not go there again.

What about Chris Houghton?

Such a fine balance for the club. They’ll be very aware that a shrewd signing at RW if someone comes available could help fire us into the champions league but there’s no way they’ll want a repeat of the mayhem from last June and risking points deduction. Only they know the financial situation though.

Mbeumo probably is worth north of £50m but I think we have too many gaps in the squad (especially if we want to be competitive on multiple fronts next season) and not enough PSR wriggle room to fill them if we shop in that sort of price range.

We will probably need another keeper, we'll definitely need another CB, we may need a backup RB depending on what happens with Trippier, our depth at CM isn't great, plus we need RW/CF. We have a number of key players approaching their twilight years and most of the players we could sell for a fee would need to be replaced.

Someone earlier said Mbeumo would "complete us" - he'd complete the starting XI absolutely, but we're probably 4-5 players short of having a squad ready for PL and European football. The drop off between the first XI and the backups is too big.
