SUPERTOON
Still don’t think we have bought Mitchell in to bring in the likes of DCL tbh.

No, but getting a squad filler on a freebie allows us to be more creative in the market in more pressing positions like RW. I assume that's where Mitchell's creativity will come into play. As much as I’d love a high tempo young striker like Delap - the position isn’t high priority. A quality RW could have us cooking next year if we can keep everyone we have now. I agree it's not a priority position, but next after CB, RW and GK for me If Wilson leaves and Osula goes on loan, we definitely need a good back up striker. I don't think Isak will be able to play 50-60 games a season, and doesn't seem the best once it gets past 70 mins or so And next season it would be great to do similar to what Villa have done this season - strong European campaign, domestic cup run, and chance to make top 5. And for me having Isak and DCL wouldn't be enough for that imo
Elma
Agree with that. Was against DCL a year ago when we'd have been paying a fee, but bearing in mind how little Wilson can contribute now and that DCL is five years younger, I don't think it's a bad shout as a Wilson replacement. Would be great to get a higher level CF but it might be difficult to convince one to come if we're generally playing 4-3-3 and Isak is first choice. Villa had (and are) having trouble keeping their two happy. A João Pedro or Ekitike who can play wide (right) or central would have be great in the squad, but Ekitike didn't want to come and and we prioritised Gordon over João Pedro when we seemed to only have the budget for one. Both would probably cost too much now. Maybe we've identified another one and will make a move in the summer? Failing that DCL is a low risk option allowing us to focus funds elsewhere. Seems like a decent lad too who would fit into the squad without too much fuss.
NWMag
DCL’s wage demands might not be as bad as we think, I honestly don’t think he will get an offer from a team better than us, so it’s either take what we offer him, or go to a worse team for more money. wyn davies
Why refer back to DCL as a potential incoming bearing in mind June last year we decided against signing him and he's another year older.

I don't think Mitchell is the only person who has a say on who we do or don't sign. Don't forget the likes of Yildiz and Cordero though, those are more Mitchell signings and we won't fully understand his impact for another few years imo. DCL is clearly someone Eddie rates, given the links over the last few years. Edited April 25 by Dr.Spaceman
Lotus
Be very surprised if we buy from a Prem team that’s not just been relegated. I would’ve thought, with our budget restrictions and obvious squad needs we’d be looking for better value. Which is why we hired Paul Mitchell, you’d think. Fak
Not every transfer is going to be a banger. Villa signed 30-year old Ross Barkley from a relegated Luton side to pad their squad out. Signing DCL as backup for nowt doesn't diminish the quality in our starting XI. He's a decent age and a canny player, he'll chip in with a few goals. His injury record obviously isn't great but I don't think it's as bad as people have made out: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dominic-calvert-lewin/verletzungen/spieler/306024 It's definitely an improvement on Wilson's this season: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/callum-wilson/verletzungen/spieler/123682

Thumbheed
DCL becomes sellable if he signs. He's a good player who's played in a poor team for a number of years now, but given the right set up, with the number of chances we create he'll be an extremely useful addition who will allow us to use our resources on more critical positions. Geordie_once_removed
I was trying to work out how I feel about DCL then I settled on this thought experiment. Imagine it's the 70th minute and we're losing by a goal against Chelsea. Isak is having one of those games he can have and looks a bit done in. Up comes the substitute board and DCL is coming on. How do you feel? Is he likely to get the goal we need? For me I'd feel exactly like I would if i saw that a 2025 version of Wilson was coming on. Plus he'd have a contract for at least 3 seasons. He represents false economy for me.

Dr Venkman
Look, if Eddie wants DCL, he’ll come here and he’ll be useful, at worst. I fail to understand how any of you can have observed what Eddie’s done here and not come to the same conclusion. It’s a free signing to fill a quite unique gap in the squad. It’ll be fine. The limitations you see in DCL’s game so far will not apply once he’s had a bit of time with our coaches. Stop fucking moaning about it
Menace
8 goals in 3 seasons. And he's had plenty of game time too.
