NUFC Transfer Rumours

I mean I reckon it's obvious enough not to need explanation, but I'll humour you. Pope should only be upgraded for an elite keeper, that rules out the likes of Onana. An elite keeper will allow us to challenge for the title.

That's why I'd go Trafford great with his feet and can improve under popey.

Could be our very own elite keeper in a year or two for a good price.

I assumed he meant the one right at the end that secured the 0-0 that was right at him. Wasn’t from JM mind so maybe different saves.

Good save, but he lets that in and we’re all asking questions

Right at him? It was smashed at him he done brilliantly to keep it out. Very harsh you saying it was an expected safe.

Remove the hugely important context and you’d never mention it again, man. It was a good save that a PL keeper needs to be making.

The concentration Pope needs when using his feet is nuts like. Always needs to take a touch before passing it between CBs.

He's great but I can't understand it. Did he have leg transplants as a kid?

Edit - Would genuinely love to have a little kick about with him because I sincerely view him as worse than the average football fan with his feet. But he might actually be decent, just looks poor compared to our outfield players.

Search for my posts on this in the Pope thread. He has always been bad with his feet. Could barely take goal kicks before he went to Charlton

Leicester at home that confirmed the champions league place?

That wasn’t brilliant imo , I remember it being a routine save that I’d fully expect a keeper to make.

i really like Pope btw, but not sure that save is the best example to use.

If your referring to my post you've misread what I said (if not then ignore me lol), no top 6 side will want to buy him, I'm absolutely certain on that, that's already enough to tell me that's a problem. There's very few players in our 1st eleven that would be true about besides Pope. I also think it's highly unlikely a side that finishes top 10 would look to buy him either.

He's had two bad shoulder injuries, that would put many off, his kicking is arguably the worst in the league, and most managers want a keeper good with their feet to play out from the back.

I'm not trying to disrespect Pope, been a great Keeper for us, will always be a legend for being part of the cup winning team, but someone will always be the weakest of the 11, for me it's very very clearly him in the current 1st team 11 which makes it essential we upgrade him.

Take away his kicking and hes actually a very good keeper. Not perfect by any means, but very solid. I would take Pope over Sanchez every day of the week.

I'd take Flekken or Verbruggen over Pope. Possibly even Kepa & Leno. A batch of mid-table keepers who are absolutely fine with their feet and shot stopping.

Trafford just seems perfect, though. Think he's done his apprenticeship now, he's going to be England number 1 in the next couple of years, he's just the ideal fit at the ideal time.

It’s easy to look good for middling PL clubs. their middling shot stopping doesn’t become an issue. We saw with Kepa when he played for big clubs - he would throw them in. Sanchez was highly rated at Brighton - he’s a poor shot stopper and not that great with his feet. Vicario - you can just put that ball on his head - he’s going to struggle.

Flekken, Verbruggen - all meaningfully inferior shot stoppers and inferior at claiming crosses. Nick Pope at his best is elite in those categories.  Pope is a big reason we don’t concede many goals from set pieces.

I’ve not seen much of Trafford so won’t comment too much. But I don’t like that he’s a kid.  Goalkeepers need to be commanders with stature and that’s more likely to come with age and experience. Maybe he’s a Courtois, Donnarumma, Cech type that is commanding at a young age.

The fact we have a team of men is an advantage in the pitch. Unless we sign ice cold players like Botman I’d rather not got sub 25 at GK and CB

Hes playing in a top 10 side.

Sure, and obviously Pope is better than him, but when they replace Sanchez this Summer if Pope was available do you expect Chelsea to be interested? I would be shocked if he was Chelsea's #1 GK next season

They are not buying him because of his age. Nothing wrong with his quality. His kicking is shocking, but most parts of his game is top tier.

Is Huijsen getting cloned?

Ha, you know what I mean

2/3 of those clubs have been linked with Guehi, if he isn't their first choice target but remains ours and they are chasing others, can't see why that wouldn't help us signing him if we indeed want him

Why would we want to do what Chelsea do? Our model works. Theirs does not.

Am I the only one thinking Eze wouldn't really fit in here? Nothing to do with where he plays or his style just that I don't feel he's radgie enough. Every time I see him score he's just stood there doing nothing.
